WJEC AS Results

Hey everyone, i’ve just received my year 12 results and they don’t reflect all my hard effort and work at all. I’ve always achieved highly on my mocks/tests with solid A’s, and i’ve never had such low grades until now- has anyone else had this issue? (Had ACC in psychology, bio and chem) Applying for vet med this year so it’s really not what I was looking for. I’m now really worried for year 13 as this years grade boundaries are awful (E.g- for chemistry last year it was 39 for an A but 51 this year, and I had 44) Any advice?? Thank you

Hey! you're not alone. I know how you feel.

I did Geo and History and got DD but was predicted BC. Asked my friends how they did and they resulted in D's. Also asked friends who're in their second years and so on, they said their first year (yr 12) they saw D's.

What I've learnt is that coleg is a massive step up from GCSE. A lot changes. You now only get a couple of months to learn so much stuff and you can potentially be learning up to a week before your exam. It's crazy and chaotic. There's so much to take in and do.

The best part is that AS doesn't define your whole coleg grades. My AS is only worth 40%. My A Level will be the other 60%. This means if I really put the work in for Yr13 and get better than D's, I will see higher grades.

Also to keep in mind, many of us now aren't babied by COVID. We don't get information prior anymore, we aren't told what to focus on more specifically, you do just have to know what you need to know and be prepared for anything and everything.

Overall, I know its easier said than done, but really don't stress too much over this. You have chances to improve and learn. You could even re-take your exams

Hope this helps ease you, even if just a bit! You've got this 🫶

Thank you so much for your support! It’s definitely been difficult at the moment, especially after having such high expectations! Very frustrating knowing last year I would’ve seen all A’s- the grade boundaries are so harsh this year. I think my AS are worth around 40% too but i’m not sure if i’d be able to get my C’s up to A’s with year 13 exams alone, so dreading resits 😞 Thank you so much again, good luck with year 13 you’ll smash it!!
