Surrey university

I’ve been looking at ranked Uni lists, as well as going to the uni for a visit, and I‘ve found that Surrey uni ranks between 12th to 21st in most uni lists which is very high, and it’s got pretty good graduate prospects that are very close to Birmingham uni, however no one ever seems to talk about Surrey uni or know that it is actually very highly ranked. Do you think this is just because it’s not Russel group, therefore it doesn’t grab peoples attention as much? Sorry if this seems like a silly post, it’s just something that surprises me a lot

Hey, im hopefully starting my uni journey at the university of surrey in a month, where im gonna do aerospace engineering. The thing is about universities is I think people tend to look too much at the rankings and groups or whatever, but what's most important is taking advantage of everything you have, I believe due to Surrey's proximity to London and the university itself having lots of connections contributes to its ranking, but what really matters the most is how well the uni does in your specific course. In uni all that matters is the friends you make, the memories, and the level of study and how its done, and I believe surrey has all of those (for my course at least), this may be very biased but I believe that no matter where you end up all that matters is you taking advantage of everything.

despite not being a russel group uni, surrey consistently wins no 1 in the UK for employability, they’re big on placement years and have good relationships with big company’s and recruitment firms so the majority of graduates find it a bit easier to secure jobs after graduating which i think is super important.

Russel group unis can easily be overhyped, they’re not the only good unis... I declined my firm choice, Bristol, for Surrey, because I wanted to not move out. Surrey is that university loads from my sixth form might go to, but I don’t think that should matter. If they like it, I’d say it’s rightly so. I wish you well on your journey.

Hi there!

I agree with @besokun in that you need to make sure you've read everything available about your course on the university website, especially things such as the modules and how they're taught, and use that to make up your mind about which university to join. You need to be confident that you'd enjoy your time at the specific university, as that's what's going to get you through the whole 3-5 years of your chosen degree.

If you've visited Surrey and Guildford and enjoyed it, then that's already a massive indicator as to what your time here will be like. That's the way it worked for me 😊 Twice already.

Hope this helps!

Hello! I’m a 1st year biomed student and wanted to know if it’s usual to have 2nd year transfer at Surrey from Kingston ? I was considering because last year my clearing grade was lower and didn’t try calling and transferred from reading to Kingston instead. I had CCD (1 mark away from C for bio) and Surrey asked CCC. So may I know if they usually consider second year transfers easily from 1st year uni grade or is there some hassle with credits or module matching from certain unis? And also if it’s possible to know are biomed Surrey modules inclined more towards deep molecular-level details or a broader, more clinical and system-based understanding of diseases and treatments? Thanks!

Hey, may I know where are you based around because I was considering to transfer to University of Surrey for second year ,I’m not sure yet and I live in West London , it takes like two hours to reach there in exchange with trains that comes every hour interval and seems dreadful.
