My son has a confirmed place at Durham but missed the deadline dates for confirming he’d like accommodation. He’s been advised that he’s on a waiting list but I wondered if anyone knew what the pecking order was in terms of who gets a place.

Applying for Accommodation - Undergraduate - Durham University and August Confirmation - College Allocation - Durham University contain detailed information about college allocation and accommodation as well as what happens if the applicant does not fill in and submit the accommodation form before the deadline 🙂 From my understanding, applicants who miss the deadline but indicate they want accommodation after the deadline are subject to reallocation to a college with availability for accommodation as stated on the website so it's likely that may be the case, however, the allocation team will reach out to your son if that does happen. For now, I would advise checking emails periodically (including junk/spam folders) as information regarding accommodation/college and enrolment and registration will come through there.

Hi there,
It may be worth exploring other options while you wait for further information. For example, there's still some private student accommodation available in the city so I'd definitely recommend doing a search and seeing what availability there is.

I'm in the same situation because I failed to read the small print at the bottom. We've emailed and found thar we will find out on Sep 6th if we have acom or not. So have a plan a b c d ect set out for that day, if acom is sorted then yay, if not we've already phoned a few letting agents and have showings planned if it falls through. If all else fails travelogue is 7 grand for the year lol

That’s really helpful to know - thanks! I think he thought that once he’d been allocated a college then all the rest would follow. It’s a shame because it’s put a bit of a dampener on what should be a really exciting time. Good luck to you - hope you get sorted.

My daughter had until the 29th to return her accommodation licence, so you have a few days remaining assuming the deadlines for all colleges are the same.

We’ve still had no communication from Durham or colleges, very panicked!

We’re the same here. Had an email to say a username and password are coming - may take five days and we’re now on day five. Still nothing re accommodation either.

To my knowledge, emails are still being sent out and not everyone will receive it at the same time, please check junk/spam folders as sometimes it can get lost there 🙂 As every college is responsible for sending out accommodation info, the time and duration will differ but if you have not received anything, then you can reach out to the college.
As for usernames/passwords, they are still being sent out to students.

Same I’ve still not received anything with the passwords or usernames which is frustrating because I thought my only issue was accommodation but obviously not. I know patience is virtue but why give a time frame of five days when it’s now been nearly two weeks. I’ve tried getting in contact with people but to no avail and with no college confirmation yet who else am I meant to message as every problem just seems to be given the “ talk to your college “ response. Feel like I’m venting here but my parents are also stressed about this and are constantly asking me if it’s organised and are confused with the complete lack of efficient and effective communication arghhhhhhh

We’ve been on to admissions today to check that he’s in the system - which he is - and still being processed. We were told that once accommodation is confirmed everything else should follow - passwords, usernames and bits from department. This should happen some time this week. i think it’s just a matter of waiting which is frustrating but hopefully not long now! Hope this reassures you a little. 🤞
