The Student Room Group

I have to make a decision today- very stressed.

I’ve just had my results back and I’ve gotten a star A*AA result, One of the papers was a mark away from another star, so I’m having it remarked. Got a 6 for GCSE for maths and the Oxford uni website says that a 7 is recommended, to me recommendation does not mean a requirement, and there are also mitigating factors as my school did not pick up my learning issues until I was well into my A-levels. Does anyone know if recommended really means they’re going to turn my application down straight off. I have currently a place at Leeds and also first choice accommodation and I have to make the decision today. I’m super stressed. Any thoughts would be incredible, or any examples of Oxford allowing in the six would be amazing. I’m fully aware that there isn’t a guarantee place or Oxford by any stretch and I might just have a gap year and back to Leeds again but I’d really like the opportunity to try, But as I say, if they’re gonna turn me down straight and there’s really no point. Thank you so much, advance.

I don’t think they’d turn you down straight away, GCSEs make up a small part of the process and if you have the grades you have, A*AA or A*A*A, you’re already in a good position. The interview, the admissions test also are part of it, and the fact you already have good A-Levels rather than them being predicted grades. As you said yourself, it’s not a requirement, just a recommandation. What course would you be applying for?
