I have to decide today- should turn down Leeds- help.

I’ve just had my results back and I’ve gotten a starA*AA result, One of the papers was a mark awayfrom another star, so I’m having it remarked. Got a 6for GCSE for maths and the Oxford uni website saysthat a 7 is recommended, to me recommendationdoes not mean a requirement, and there are alsomitigating factors as my school did not pick up mylearning issues until I was well into my A-levels. Doesanyone know if recommended really means they’regoing to turn my application down straight off. I havecurrently a place at Leeds and also first choiceaccommodation and I have to make the decisiontoday. I’m super stressed. Any thoughts would beincredible, or any examples of Oxford allowing in thesix would be amazing. I’m fully aware that there isn’t a guarantee place or Oxford by any stretch and I might just have a gap year and back to Leeds again but I’d like the opportunity to try, But as I say, if they’re going to turn me down straight and there’s really no point. Thank you so much, advance.

Hi,
As far as i know it wouldn’t affect ur application drastically in a negative way, Oxford tends to look more at A-Levels and likes to assess and see the improvement u have made from GCSEs. I know of a few people who didn’t do as well in their GCSEs but still got into Oxford because their A-Level results were really good.
If you’re conflicted, maybe try deferring for the Leeds course for next year.
If you do that you can still apply Oxford, see whether u get in or not and then decide where to go.
Hope that helps.
You can't hold a deferred place and apply next year as well, but of course you can reapply to Leeds. There are other options other than Oxford that you could apply for as well
