Safety on campus

Safety on campus
Campus is a safe, relaxed environment, but our security team are there for our students 24/7.

Security staff patrol all areas of the University on foot and by vehicle throughout the day and night. There is an extensive system of CCTV cameras, intruder alarms and access control in all areas of University property for your safety and security.

The Security and Emergency Services Office is located in the Atrium of the Richmond Building. It is staffed at all times of the day and night, with staff available to help you with any problems that you may have.

SafeZone app
We also have the SafeZone app which is a great way to have peace of mind when you're studying or having fun on campus! It's free to download, easy to use and has lots of really useful features such as:

▪️ Quickly and discreetly send a location-based alert to our security team whenever you need an immediate emergency response, first aid or any other general assistance

▪️ Keep up to date through notifications sent directly to your phone if there is an incident on campus

▪️ 'Check in' at any time of day to tell us where you are on campus 24/7

The Green - secure accommodation
There's a relaxed and friendly atmosphere at The Green, the on-campus student village. However you can be sure we’re looking out for you, with:

▪️ 24-hour security and CCTV
▪️ Unique fob access to each living area
▪️ Secured by Design accreditation
▪️ A team of wardens

Useful advice
Our local police force, West Yorkshire Police, has lots of advice for students on how to stay safe, and what to do if you're a victim of crime. Take a look at their Student Safety website.

The Complete University Guide also has a useful guide to staying safe at university.
