Family and disappointing results

So I was the first child of my family to go to a private school. I was always viewed at that kid who got all A*s and was very clever. I applied to medicine and got an offer from Manchester and UCLan. Unfortunately I did not meet the Manchester offer but met my UCLan one. My dad and I are very happy because medicine is medicine and I’m going to uni. The rest of our family and friends however just constantly are saying things like ‘Noo way’ or asking my dad if he was really disappointed with me and honestly it’s just making me feel really bad about myself. How do I get over the validation seeking and caring about peoples opinions?

I'd probably remind myself that none of the naysayers ever received an offer for medicine, much less multiple offers and then secured a place.

Thank you. It’s what I needed to hear!

Hi @131005

As difficult as it is, I would remind yourself that you are happy with your results (as is your dad) and that everyone else has no real business commenting on how you may, or should, feel in this situation. It is very difficult to get offers for medicine and to then obtain the grades required. Be proud of yourself and hold your head high. Whether they are intending to hurt your feelings or simply being careless, their opinions are not relevant to your achievements or your pride.
