Gap year to reapply

Hi,

I applied to study Economics for 2024 entry with predicted grades of A*A*A* in Maths, Further Maths, and Economics.

Despite these strong predictions, I only received one offer out of five (Manchester, Durham, Warwick, Bristol, UCL) from Bristol.

It appears that my personal statement was a key factor in the rejections, even though I initially believed it was strong.

Now that I've achieved A*A*A*, would I have a better chance of getting into a top university like Oxbridge or LSE if I improve my personal statement, even though I didn't apply to those universities last year?

Cheers

Joe

if those are the places you want to go to, with those grades i would definitely take a gap year to reapply. they're more likely, i think, to accept you now knowing you've achieved those grades. maybe spend the rest of your summer perfecting your personal statement and apply early in september to give yourself a better chance.

in the meantime, try applying to internships and other opportunities that you can get. this will help with not only employment, but you can even talk about it in your personal statement.

hope this helps !

Do you have a good reason to think your statement was an issue? I’d be nervous for economics - a lot of great applicants don’t get offers from LSE.

Yeah, I was rejected from Durham and Manchester specifically because other candidates had better personal statements
