Accepting a course while waiting for another

Hi, could anyone advise me as to how it works if I accept an offer for a course which deadlines Thursday but have been told could be a week or more before hear if have a place on my preferred course (on waitlist for same). If I accept the course I’ve an offer for does that mean I will be taken off waitlist for preferred course? I don’t want to leave myself with no course

Given the Thursday deadline, would I be right in assuming that the offer you've just received was via Clearing, and what you've received is an informal offer pending you actually listing it as your Clearing choice in UCAS Hub?

Is your preferred course your firm or insurance choice, where you just missed the offer grades and where the current status on UCAS is "waiting for confirmation"? Or is it also a place for which you applied via Clearing and have yet to receive an informal offer of a place?
