FUNDING ADVICE dropping out masters??

I am looking for some advice RE dropping out a masters course. It is 18 month full time Master of Science and I have done 12 months however not enjoying it and not sure if I want to finish. I’ve received the amount entitled to for first year which has gone fully on tuition fees. If i was to drop out now would I technically owe the remaining amount for the rest of the course. The 6 month of tuition left would be used to pay my tuition fees remaining.

Thanks!

Hi there. This is something you would have to discuss with the University as they would inform you of how much fees are outstanding for each term. Just so you are aware, in this case after withdrawing you would not be eligible for another Postgraduate Loan from ourselves. Thanks, David

Hi David

I have done this now and have been advised that I would owe the whole fees from first year of uni (6k) despite this being paid using my masters loan. Would this not just be added to my total student loan balance? I am unsure why I would owe the fees from first year.

Thanks

Hi there,

If you withdraw from the course then the university need to send us a change of circumstances to confirm this to us. Once received, we will update your account and block future payments. If the university are looking for payment after you have withdrawn, this is something you would need to discuss with them.

Thanks,
Claire

Hi Clare

I am aware I wouldn’t receive future payments and that they would be blocked, I am just confused how they can expect me to pay the fees from year one which have already been paid to them?

Thanks 🙂
Hi ayk180501,

You would need to discuss with the university about why they expect fees to be paid which you have already paid.

Thanks,
Calum

Hi there, I think they are meaning an overpayment. The loan payment(s) made for the payment period in which the you withdrew will be left in place and will not be recalculated based on the number of days you were in attendance. Any payments you were entitled to will be added to your balance. If a student receives a payment that was designated for a payment period after they withdrew from their course this will be classed as a loan overpayment. I think that is what they are meaning. Thanks, Jason
