Change from non-means tested to means tested

Hi, over the summer my dad has passed away. I'm due to start my first year. It has taken me a while to get round to the student finance. I have rang them twice but both times they were unhelpful, one even said "Well why didn't you already say that on the original application" after I explained he had passed away in late July. I just need to know how I can change my application to means tested as originally I would have been on minimum loan, but I will likely be on maximum loan now as he was the main breadwinner. What should I do and expect the time frame to be? Thanks in advance

Hi there. First I am sorry to hear about this and can only apologise for the advice you were given over the phone sorry. In this case, we would first require you to upload to your online account a copy of the Death Certificate. Along with this, you would have to provide a Non means tested to Means tested form which you can find below. Once we have these, it will take around 30 working days to be processed. If you have another parent who will be supporting your application we will still require their details also, on a PFF2 form which you can also find below.
Assessment of Financial Circumstances For parents and partners of students (publishing.service.gov.uk)
Applying for student finance based on household income form (slc.co.uk)
Thanks, David

So would I send over the forms at the same time or send the other form before the PFF2 one. Thank you

Hi there,

You can upload all the forms and evidence at the same time and they will be processed together.

I have a part time job in a pub, earning about £50 a week on average, does the household income include this or just my mum's income?

Is all I need to do upload the forms, or do I need to restart an application or will it be clear that I need to be means tested

Hi there. We only require your mothers household income as a sponsor, this is what is used to assess your entitlement. You do not need to restart the application only to upload the forms provided above. Thanks. David
