Medicine Choices:

Hello, I have just sat my UCAT and have tried to look into which universities I will be suited to apply to. Here are my application details...
GCSE: 888877666
UCAT: 2810
SJT: Band 1
Predicted Grades: A*A*A
Work Experience: Care assistant part time, volunteered at high school weekly to assist with science lessons, Leader of society at college

My choices so far are narrowed down to Keele, East Anglia, St Georges, Liverpool, Anglia Ruskin and Southampton. Are these choices suitable? Are there any other universities where I may stand a chance that I ought to consider? I know that the Liverpool selection process has recently changed and little admission statistics prior to change are available.
Probably also Manchester and Lincoln

Hi there,

It sounds like you’re in a strong position with your application, so well done on that! Your GCSEs, UCAT score, and predicted grades are solid, and your work experience shows a great commitment to healthcare.

In terms of the universities you’re considering, they all have their strengths, and your choices seem suitable given your stats. Each medical school has slightly different criteria, so it’s wise to consider how your application aligns with their specific selection processes.

Regarding UEA, the Medicine course at Norwich Medical School offers a student-centred learning environment where you’ll be part of a close-knit community passionate about making a positive difference. UEA looks for well-rounded candidates who meet their academic requirements and show a strong commitment to medicine through work experience and other activities. Your predicted grades of AAA and your GCSEs meet the academic requirements for UEA, and your UCAT score of 2810, combined with a Band 1 in SJT, puts you in a competitive position. I'll leave here a link for further details: https://www.uea.ac.uk/course/undergraduate/mbbs-medicine#entry_requirements. I also leave the following link in case you want to chat with our academics or current students: https://www.uea.ac.uk/ask-us.

Good luck with your applications! If you have any more questions or need further advice, feel free to reach out.

Best,
Daniel

Hi there,

That work experience is super valuable and it seems like you’re in a good position currently. It’s great to see you’re looking at universities up and down the UK have you been to their Open Days? Have you spoke to current Medicine students there? Are they far away from home? What is their accommodation like? Do you want to be far away from home? Outside of Medicine, what help and support do they offer? Is being near to the city/seaside location important? What about after graduation? Lots of things to consider when choosing!

As for studying Medicine at ARU we are home to Essex’s first School of Medicine. Our Medicine students benefit from state-of-the-art skills facilities, GP simulation rooms, the ARU Anatomy Centre and a Harvard style lecture theatre, as well as learning from experienced tutors including consultants, surgeons, nurses and GPs. For entry requirements, we typically require AAA at A-Level that includes Chemistry or Biology and one of either Biology, Chemistry, Maths or Physics. All entry requirement info can be found on the Medicine webpage too.

We have our next undergraduate Open Day on Saturday 5th October if you’d like to come down to our Chelmsford campus and speak with the Medicine lecturers and students and explore the facilities. Feel free to book your place now 😊

Let us know any other questions or queries,
Best of luck!

Hi,
I would suggest looking at Nottingham as they favour SJT band 1. Keele may be a bit risky. I think with your high UCAT you are better off going for a more straight forward Uni. Good Luck.
