Does anyone else do this?

is it normal if you disappear and work on yourself without anything else knowing about you including your family, friends or anyone that you know off and then coming back and then showing them what you have achieved about yourself and ur goals and how you changed as a person?

has anyone gone through a self improvement journey and just focused totally on themselves and ignored everyone because im on this journey and i got a few friends and they text me but at the same time i dont really respond back and if i do i respond a few hours late and they get annoyed

i just dont know if anyone has gone through this before

When people say they are working on themselves, the immediate question that I ask is how and in what way. Are you doing something to improve your emotional intelligence, your physical strength, your character, your skills? Or is it something else? Do you need to isolate yourself and be miles away from your friends and family in order to do so? Why?

People have disappeared and came back after significant improvement since time immemorial. You see it in ancient tales, legends, myths, and even 19th Century novels. It's not uncommon especially when you get a lot of people traveling, but with the advent of technology and how accessible a lot of things are do you necessarily need to? If I want to work on my emotional intelligence for example, I could just buy an online course that would help me do that. If I want to improve my finances, I would learn a high income skill, seek mentoring online, and start a business (most likely online). If I want to improve my physique, I would get home gym equipment, follow workout plans, and follow a prescribed diet. None of the above requires me to be away from home or away from family and friends; having said that, there is nothing to say that I can't go out of my way to go far away and isolate myself in order to do so - the more important thing is actually doing what you need to do, irrespective of whether you're in contact with family and friends or not.

Having said that, it is more or less required and expected that you are alone by yourself most of the time when you are working on yourself (unless you're receiving coaching or mentoring). You should be focused with undivided attention on the aspect of yourself that you're working on. If your family and friends keep distracting you, then I would isolate myself as a last resort - you need the peace. If they are not a distraction, you don't need to be so drastic as to cut them off.
