Is University of Glasgow prestigious?

I’ll be studying my Bachelors in Mechanical engineering in University of Glasgow this September.

I have read up and many different opinions and personally I a lot of people have regarded it as a very reputable school and many students who have studied there loved it. But when I saw the recent ranking it doesn’t really match with what I’ve heard. I picked the school because they were the only one that offered me scholarship (so why not). But sometimes I can’t help it but to wonder if I made the wrong choice.

Current Glasgow student here. MLitt in English Literature (also did my honours degree at Glasgow). Glasgow is second or third in Scotland, depending on which table you look at, behind St Andrews and sometimes Edinburgh. Mechanical engineering at Glasgow is a VERY strong degree, as Glasgow uni has a long history producing great students in this subject. AND you got a scholarship: you should be absolutely thrilled 🤩

Prestige pretty much counts for nothing in the real world so don't worry about it. Thankfully we no longer live in a world where the colour of your tie counts for more than your skills and knowledge..

Thank god, time to load up that resume and learn stuff. Cheers man!
For engineering i think Strathclyde does it better if i am not mistaken. UoG is more famous for Medicine, Economics. I rarely meet people from Glasgow uni saying that they study engineering.
But since you gotten a scholarship, why not? Find what is the best for your financial support

Oh I’m an International student so I have limited info. It made sense cause they allowed 2nd year entry + scholarship
