FTP nursing confidentiality issue

Hi can I have a bit of advice please? I shared information about something on a private message, something that a nurse has decided to report me for months after. She probed me for the information on placement and I stupidly sent her private messages on a social media account with the information she wanted to know. This was information I had from previous placement. I know I should’ve kept the information to myself and I am now facing a fitness to practice formal hearing. How seriously do the university take breaching confidentiality and also taking into account that I have had 2 action plans already, I’m at the end of my 1st yr of nursing. any help appreciated

You'll at worse be given a disciplinary.
Remember if it goes to the fitness to practice panel make sure you have all the evidence you can stating that you were basically bullied into giving her the information, as if not she will cause havoc for you.

You know yourself you shouldn't have done this. Doesn't matter who it is you don't ever share information about anyone ( especially if it is patients as you are breaking the private and confidential code.).

Make sure you have a university union representative with you to fight for you and to put over a good response on why this has happened.

It will be up to the university what they decide to do with you after your hearing as they might just give you a warning ( it will be kept on your file incase of any future disciplinary you might have).

Thank you for taking the time to respond to my question. I have written my statement with the help of the SU and seen all of the evidence against me. The nurse has made out that it’s all me in her statement and it honestly doesn’t look like she played any part in it. She was replying to my messages, engaging in the conversation both verbally and on the social media. The university have written the breaches I have made in regards to the nmc code and they have a statement from a matron on the ward stating that I should known better due to the fact that I am not new to the nhs as I have been working for years before becoming a student. I have a Gp letter supporting my mh issues and a character references. I have also been withdrawn from placement with immediate effect when I was informed of the breach. It doesn’t look promising does it 😞

im afraid not. expect the worst. being bullied to share private and highly confidential information is not really a defence. you should have reported the attempt to force info out of you. the sister/matron is right you should have known better. chucking in you metal health status wont help. do you have proof of this nurse bullying you. its you only argument but even then not a great one. what were the earlier action plans for. were they in anyway connected to this last issue. what level of info did you share it may be the only argument you can make. was this nurse involved in the patients care would they have had a reason to need that information. ie did they have a lawful reason to have access to it. if she/he did and it was shared over a secure nhs email then you have no case to answer. it looks like you were set up.

Thank you for your answer.
I am going to submit my statement and withdraw from the course as I am quite sure it will end in them terminating my place anyway. Thank you again.

i would hold fire on quitting. you would end up having to repay your support. there is a chance you will be given a final warning. your a student so they may give you the benefit of the doubt. if you wat to be a nurse fight for it.

I agree with paub about holding back until you know what is happening because you might quit and find out you only been given a severe warning ⚠️.

Continue with your degree until you know the outcome of the hearing.

Fight for what you have if you seriously wanting to be a nurse

I have decided to leave the course. The uni were dragging the ftp process out and I need to make decisions regarding what I want from this. So for me my dream is over 😔
