What do I use to put up pictures?

I really want to be able to hang up a few extra shelves and pictures etc to decorate my room but cannot find anything that doesn’t damage the walls (and I do NOT want a fine) has anyone found anything that has worked for them?

Hi, Ascpea

Congratulations on getting into university! 👏

Where will you be studying and what course? 🎓️

It's lovely to see that you're already thinking of personalising your room! This is such a nice idea and way to make yourself feel at home!

It's a bit of a difficult task to find shelves which won't make marks on the walls, however, depending on your accommodation you may have quite a few already.

As for pictures, a few friends of mine had pin boards in their rooms, or brought a pin board, and used this to decorate and hang fairy lights and pictures.

It's definitely worth checking out what your conditions are for getting your deposits back if you're paying one, but it might be a case of getting creative with the shelves/cabinets you have once you move in!

I hope this helps! 😊
Best of luck for your start in September! 😃

Thank you! I start uni in 2025 I’m just trying to prepare early 🤣 hopefully going to Sunderland with psychology!
I have no clue what their policies are or know anything about deposits so I clearly have a lot to learn 🥲

Hi, Ascpea

It's so lovely to hear how prepared you are! There's nothing wrong with getting extra prepared! Moving out and going to university is such a big change for some people and being prepared will definitely give you the best start! 😊

You'll learn lots when applying to university and can contact the university once you've secured a place to find out more about accommodation and deposits! So don't worry just yet, but it's great to see that you're thinking ahead! And the Student Room is a great place to find out experiences of others who have already been there!

I wish you the best of luck! And with all this preparation, I'm sure you'll do well and get to where you want to go!😁
