Med reject teehe

GUYSSS HELP
ME OUT!!

I am a mess, so my options are

Chemistry at lancaster
Resitting and reapplying
Cardiac physiology at leeds with a foundation year!!

I just got told that cardiac physiologists assist in surgeries, have their own patients, do consultations and are basically doctors but without the title. However, i’ve loved chemistry since highschool and ive wanted to be a doctor since ever! But ive been rejected my med school and thats fine!! But what’s next? I feel so lost and confused? How do I decide what i want to do

So many questions since your post is so vague:

Did you just did your A Levels on your first attempt?

If you're that set on medicine, have you looked into foundation years?

What are your final grades and for which subjects?

Have you done your UCAT/BMAT?

Which universities have you looked into?

Are there any personal extenuating circumstances that would qualify you for resits or contextual offers?

What research have you done so far on degrees in medicine?

Yes for all of them!! And with looking at universities I cant go too far as my dad is bedbound and really unwell so if God forbid something happened to him i’d want to be at a distance I can get home asap! I have lowkey given up with med but idk if im jus saying that bc im tired and burnt out and jus cba or if I mean it. I LOVE LOVE LOVE chemistry but cardiac phys sounds good bc to some extent it’s like medicine but less stressful also with both I could do post grad med

For the heads up, getting in medicine as a graduate (GEM) is a lot more competitive and a lot more difficult than going in as an undergrad. If you want to only do cardiac phys, then do that but not get your hopes up with medicine.

By the way, you didn't answer the other questions that I have asked.

In which case you might struggle to find master's degrees that would accept undergrads in anything but chemistry. As far as I know, cardiac physiology is more akin to biology than chemistry. If you want to do a postgrad in chemistry, you will need an undergrad cognate to chemistry.

We dont talk ab my grades that wound is still fresh
OK, so long you check everything yourself.

ive done both the ucat and bmat, I did chem bio and history
OK.

That's interesting. I'd be interested to know more about his history and background then, as well as how he managed to get into chemistry with a degree in cardiac physiology.

I would still go for undergrad medicine if you can get in. GEM is incredibly competitive, so even if you are the perfect candidate, you will have a hard time getting in.

If you can look at foundation courses that you meet the entry requirements of, then by all means apply for them. See:
https://www.themedicportal.com/application-guide/choosing-a-medical-school/foundation-courses/

There are other pathways including a transfer to medicine. See:
https://www.themedicportal.com/application-guide/deciding-on-medicine/pathways-to-medicine/

For a transfer to medicine, you would need to do a subject related to medicine after your first year at uni:
https://www.themedicportal.com/application-guide/graduate-entry-medicine/medicine-transfer-schemes

As you still haven't mentioned your approximate location, it's a little difficult for me to recommend any schemes local to you that you can look into.

Im from burnley and my dad’s not well so im sort of his primary carer so i’d have to commute! I got an interview on clearing for medicine at edgehill but couldn’t get there the next day due to my dad’s health and they couldnt reschedule! I honestly have no idea what I want to do, I love chemistry as a subject but I think a career as a CP is better

It's your call.

However, my go to in your position would still be foundation course in medicine. The following offer foundation courses in medicine within 1 hour drive of Burnley:

UCLan

Manchester

Liverpool

Leeds

Edge Hill

Lancaster

So on top of that, they have done a medical degree, Foundation Years and GP training. The rest of it doesn't mean a lot in medicine

Cannot be a GP at 23, even if you go to med school straight after A levels (would be minimum 28). And you cannot work as a GP without MBBS and MRCGP.

I can’t really though? As i’ve said I’ve reapplied for med and plan on doing that from September. However, I have a friend who’s doing CP and at my interview I got to speak to the people in their 2nd/3rd year. And it seems like a small course ( the Uni I applied to has less than 30 people in each “yeargroup” for the course) and they all seem nice, this is different from most courses as they have a larger cohort of 100+ people. Idk much ab the course itself, all ik is that you’ll have your own patients, consultations etc and get to assist in surgeries
