Royal Holloway Commute

heyy guys so i’m going to RHUL in september and i will be commuting there. i’ve just found out though that apparently egham station doesn’t use an oyster card because it’s outside of zone 6 but before i even get to that station i will be using an oyster card and travel on the central and jubilee lines so i’m super confused now.

to get to egham station, i will arrive at waterloo station from bond street and take SWR from there to egham but how will i tap out my journey from before if egham will not accept an oyster card? instead of even using an oyster at all should i use a railcard for my whole journey? i don’t intend on travelling all the way to feltham because my journey is already long enough + i have to admit i’m not too confident on the tube so this whole situation of oyster not being accepted is stressing me out now and i just want an easy commute without any hassle of buying paper tickets etc.

i have also heard that if egham will not take oyster for trains they won’t take it for buses? i have a short bus journey to take to RHUL when i arrive at egham station but have heard things like the campus bus actually provides a route for students for £1 but could someone expand on that for me please

Hello,

We're excited for you to join us in September!

You're able to use your Oyster Card on underground lines to get to Waterloo station, but when you depart from London Waterloo to Egham, you will have to use a train ticket for the overground train to Egham. You can use a railcard to get a discount on travel on overground trains. If you would prefer to buy a digital train ticket, you can do this through the Trainline app.

In terms of buses from Egham station to campus, you can find out more about travelling to/from campus via bus here, including the timetable of buses to and from our campus and Egham station which is £1.

General information on travelling to/from campus can be found here.

I hope this helps!

Best wishes

thanks so there is no type of travel card for buses right? i’d just have to use a contactless card. also is the campus bus called ‘RHU’? and is that the only bus that provides a £1 fare and will it stop outside of egham railway station?

and the regular buses on the link you sent, the 441 and 500, they are the ones with the 33% student discount right. on the first day i might not have my student ID so do you know how much they cost without student discount ? and if those buses stop outside egham station? thank you so muchhhh
