Hey anyone else going to dmu that isn’t 18/19??

I’m 20 and im starting first again at a different uni just wondering what are the chances of meeting people my age in first year.

I’m scared i wont find any friends that are my age or that 18/19 will find it very weird that im 20 in first year

I’m doing business and marketing!

Hey there 😁

Congrats! Business and Marketing sound crazy interesting 🤩

Don’t stress about your age at DMU! The university is a mix of students from different age groups, so you’ll definitely find peers who are both younger and older than you. A year or two here or there doesn’t make a difference. People often take gap years or follow unique paths, so it’s nothing odd.

From my own experience, age rarely comes up in conversation. What truly matters is the shared excitement of starting this new chapter and exploring all that university life has to offer. Last year, I was on a year-long student exchange, so I’ll be rejoining students who did first year while I was in my second. I've made friends from all over the world, and age has never been an issue. I’m confident you’ll settle in just fine and make lasting connections too!

I hope it was helpful 💪 Feel free to reach out if you have any questions 😉 You can also chat with me orother students directly through The Ambassador Platform.

Take care,

When I went to dmu I was 22 when I started. You will be absolutely fine at 20! Lots of people in your course will be different ages and most people won’t even be interested in how old you are if you are nice chatty and friendly! If you are staying in accommodation they’ll be ample opportunity to make friends and freshers week and societies will definitely help you meet mates!
