A level choices:

Hi, I want to do a law degree at a Russell group and I’m going into year 12 this September. I know for definite I will be taking Spanish and French a level, so that’s two subjects already. But for law would sociology or English lit be better? I can’t decide between them and I’m not sure my grade will be good enough for 4 a levels. If I can’t do 4 a levels I might choose to do sociology privately outside of my sixth form college (my mum has already said she doesn’t mind paying for a tutor) and she doesn’t mind paying for me to do sociology exams. So which should I do in sixth form?
Which do you enjoy more?
Both are essay subjects which are preferred at a level so I dont think it matters which you take from that standpoint. In terms of skills you’ll get and popularity in which subejcts are usually taken for law English lit edges it slightly but if you prefer sociology then take that instead because unis want high grades and generally won’t care which subject as long as its essay based which they both are.
Personally, English Literature is regarded more as ‘academic’ by russell group unis. Similarly, to study law english would be a better option to pick. But ultimately go for whichever subject you enjoy more! I studied both english and sociology at a-levels and I really enjoyed both of them (english is slightly harder due to the amount of coursework and writing in exams). Sociology has slight links to law as you look at topics regarding crime, but personally english would look a lot better on your ucas. Hope whatever you choose works for you!

Thank you - honestly I like English lit and sociology the same and that’s why I want to take 4 a levels instead of 3 - I will update on results day waht my confirmed subject choices are!
