Can I take a gap year then make a ucas application?

Going into year 13. I was not fully decided and very confused on what course I should do and now I don’t think I’m prepared enough or have enough time to do so to get into any of my final choice courses (medicine ) (haven’t prepared for ucat) and I have little experience or credentials that wouldlook good in an application/interview
Can I take a gap year to get some credentials, strengthen my application and then apply to uni independently? Or do I need mysixth form supporting me directly?

Yes, you can apply for Medicine in a gap year, and yes, this gives you the best opportunity to pack in some relevant experience. Most schools will allow you to still apply through their UCAS portal in a gap year - you just need their buzzword and that would link your application to the school. This means they can add their reference etc easily. Just check with whoever organises UCAS applications at your school.
