The most appropriate route is probably via an Access to Higher Education Diploma (normally abbreviated as Access to HE). These are typically one year courses specifically designed to allow students without the more traditional qualifications (A levels, BTECs, etc.) to access higher education.

First of all, good on you for wanting to go back into education. As OP has said access to HE diploma is a good way to get into university, do you already have GCSE English and Maths at grade 4/C or higher? If not that will be your starting point. I re did my GCSES last year in an adult course at college and actually really enjoyed it, came out with a 5 in maths and a 6 in English language. I did the access course this year in science (physics, chemistry and biology) and got 42 distinctions 3 merits (and start biomedical science Bsc next month). But there are many different access diplomas you can do depending on what degree you want to do. I’m a lot older than you (43) so it’s never to late to start over again 😀
