No accomodation offer at Southampton

I applied for accomodation at Southampton after getting in through clearing and put a £200 rent accom as my first option when I really should've put the cheaper accomodation in first. This is because by the time my course starts I won't be in contact with my parents and will never be again (because of my sexuality) and it would be a safety risk to contact them again. This means I'm all on my own for uni and it's up to me to pay for rent.

I then rejected the offer since I can't afford it and after reading the fine print turns out that was a really stupid thing to do because now I apparently can't apply again. I sent an application anyways so I will see where that goes and I emailed the accoms team practically begging for a room.

What are my other options? Is it really true that I can't apply again for accomodation because it's really unclear why I'd be able to if I apparently can't.

I can't comment on what they will come back with but have you looked at private halls in the area at all? You can usually find something a bit cheaper than uni halls on there. Otherwise, it's worth also talking to the support team to see if they can help with anything, don't leave it to the last minute as it's easy for things to stack up and get worse.

PS - A day trip to the Isle of Wight if you can is totally worth it! 🙂

Firstly, congratulations on your place to study at the University of Southampton.

I am sorry to hear you are having trouble with your accommodation.

If you unable to get a place in halls, there are many houseshares available in Southampton, some of which are students only. You can browse these on either Spareroom or Rightmove, which tend to be quite affordable.

In addition, if you don't hear back from the accommodation team within a few days, I recommend phoning them to get a quicker answer. Their phone number is +44 (0)23 80 595959.
