Need Formal Transcript But Don't Want to Withdraw From My Current Uni

Hey,

I have recived a "'verbal conditional offer” of entry into Yr 2 the only condition being that you can provide the official approved transcript" as I have supplied the university my student transcript, but not an official transcript. On my student transcript it says "This is a student self-service transcript. Formal transcripts printed on secure paper and bearing the stamp of the University with the name of an authorised officer are issued at graduation, or on exit from the University". I don't want to exit the university I am currently at because the offer from my transfer choice is not yet official i.e. just what is written earlier in this post verbatim - I don't want to end up without a place at a university. I have emailed the relavent person at my current uni asking for a formal transcript and guidance on how to get one if they can't help. What are the chances of them giving me one without having to fully withdraw/exit from the uni? In my email I expressed I need it urgently as I am considering transferring universities.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'd suggest that you attempt to get the "verbal conditional offer" in email form, so it's a tad more secure. It too easy right now for there to have been a "misunderstanding" as to the exact course, the start date, the conditions, etc.

If you have something in writing that the place is yours if you provide an official transcript, then withdrawing from your current uni in order to obtain that official transcript sounds less risky.

However, your current approach of attempting to obtain an official transcript prior to withdrawing is the better solution.

I do have the "verbal conditional offer" in email correspondence but I just feel that as it hasn't been fully processed by the central admissions department (the correpondance was with their head of admissions for their school of chemistry) it isn't actually an official offer yet. To be more specific, the wording is "At this stage, I can extend a “verbal conditional offer” of entry into Yr 2 the only condition being that you can provide the official approved transcript. So, at this stage you can start the withdrawal process if you like but we can’t begin your enrolment here without receiving more official documentation.". My main worry is that my current uni won't provide me the official transcript with me still being enrolled there (is that possible?). In my email to my current uni I said I was "considering transferring" just so they won't instantly terminate my studies.

I don't understand why they won't make it a formal conditional offer. Such an offer can still have the condition that you must provide an official transcript. Have you tried contacting central admissions at the new uni to see what their take is?

They might be able to give you some reassurance that the offer is legitimate. Alternatively, they might tell you that School of Chemistry are not entitled to make their own offers, and that offers must come from central admissions to be binding.

I think your caution here is wise.
