applying for mech eng

hellooooo I am looking to apply to mech eng at imperial, Ucl, Cambridge nd Kcl but I'm unsure about the fifth choice or if I should even put a fifth. I take maths fm physics and chem predicted 3A*A. I just feel like if I don't get into a uni I actually want to go to I'd rather not go. Also any extra curriculars/ wider reading suggestions are appreciated if anyone even sees this 😊
"imperial, Ucl, Cambridge nd Kcl"

The advice for competitive subjects like Mech is to apply to Cambridge and at most, only two of those other Unis. Evert year, thousands (yes, thousands) of applicants get rejected from those Unis despite meeting or exceeding the entry requirements. If you make all 5 choice mega-competitive Unis (and I'd include Bath and Bristol in this list) for Mech your chances of no offers is very high.

You could apply for just Cambridge and maybe two other Unis initially - and see what happens. If you get offers, great. If you don't, or you have had no decisions, then you can add two lower grade choices before the January deadline as a back up. Recommended.

I didn't know you could apply for unis at different times, this is very helpful thank you. I think I will apply for Cambridge,Imperial and Ucl as an early applicant then most Likely Kcl in Jan as well as another lower option depending on the outcome. Thank u sm
As long as you add the others before the January UCAS deadline, strategic choices like this are fine.

Here are some extra-curriculars I suggested to someone else:

Online MOOCs (Future Learn, TuDelft, MIT open courseware)

summer school (Sutton trust, EDT trust)

personal project (I built a solenoid engine)

In-person talks or events at universities

check the Isaac physics events section and try join an online event

ICE CityZen competition

Try the British Physics Olympiad or UKMT

UCL MSSL space science week

As far as I know KCL don't do mechanical engineering, offering only electrical and electronic, general and biomedical I believe. I wouldn't apply there if you really want to do mechanical engineering unless you don't mind doing any of the above.

Good luck!
Look at Bath, Bristol and Southampton.

Why these unis? Do you want to be an Engineer and work in industry? Look at unis with a year in industry and where the courses are actually geared to work not academia.

Bath is a good call with a great placement scheme and Formula Student.
