Anxiety due to academic pressure

Occasionally throughout year 12 i’ve experienced symptoms of anxiety. Especially around intense moments such as around mocks. But during the summer it’s gotten really bad and I find myself stressing about school, especially uni applications, almost everyday. It’s gotten quite debilitating and I struggle to do school work because the thought of it stresses me out but then having not done any school work also stresses me out so i’ve just been doing little bits. I’ve already started to lose faith in getting into my top choice university, which is strange because i’ve always been confident in myself academically - rightfully so as I achieved all As/A*s in my GCSEs and A-level mocks so I don’t know why i feel like this. I’ve talked to my mum and a few friends about certain bits of my worries but no one knows its entirety. Has anyone else been through something similar and have any advice?

Ive experienced the same to a similar extent tbh. For me, having an outlet like the gym has done me so good, also just doing literally nothing after finishing work (you could see it as 'cool down' time) has helped me reduce feeling overwhelmed/stressed.

I hope my reply has helped in some way🙏

It may be advisable to see your GP regarding this.

Thank you. This has helped! I think my issue was that in year 12 i lost time to do my hobbies and then when i did have time, i didn’t want to do them. I’ve gotten back into reading fiction and going on runs this summer, so hopefully I can make time for them during the school year.
Thanks again.

Thank you so much! I don’t know if I want to see a GP yet, but I’ll look into the other resources you suggested.

Hi There

We hear that you have been experiencing symptoms of anxiety recently. It sounds like over the summer break your anxiety has intensified and it is now having an impact on how you are feeling about getting into your top pick of University. It is great that you have been able to speak with your Mum and a few friends about how you are feeling right now. Often speaking about how we are feeling with people who we trust can help us to navigate these feelings and empower us to think about what next steps are best for us.

It is great that you have been able to be so honest about how you are feeling on this platform. We also encourage you to reach out to Anxiety UK and No Panic who can provide you with some really practical advice and support too. We are also wondering if you have watched Inside Out 2. If you haven’t watched it then we encourage you to either watch it or take a look at the 'Anxiety Attack' scene on YouTube because this gives a really good example of what living with anxiety is really like.

If this is leading to you having any thoughts about suicide then please reach out to Hopeline247 on 0800 068 4141 or Text on 88247 and a trained Suicide Prevention Adviser will speak to you and offer advice and support 💟
