Going to a non-russell group

I am going to study biomedical sciences at the University of Surrey.
Since i am not going to a non-russell group university will the opportunities presented to me in the future be limited (for example the type of company I work at and where i do my master or other post graduate degree (if i do one))?
Also, i am not 100% sure if biology/biomed is the right field for me (i love science but idk which science i want to have a career in) so will going to a non-russell group also make it more unlikely for me to change the field i have my career in?

No. They will not be limited to you just as employers don't discriminate on your gender or where you live / come from. It is a myth that only Russel Group universities guarantee good opportunities cooked up by the marketing department of Russel Group universities. The myth needs to die. Employers are interested in you, not the colour of your tie. Good luck!

There is some bias with russel and non Russell unis. I believe that you get a better offers from Russell’s but you will still get good offers from any uni. It will be harder if you are competing with other people who have gone to prestigious unis like Oxbridge and some top London unis

i did a similar degree at St Andrews and I can tell you your prospects will be limited because of your (our) degree choice rather than your uni, which is perfectly respected. your prospects WON'T be limited as long as you bulk up your CV with as much work experience (customer service) as possible

i also speak as someone who is a bit of a uni snob so it gives me no pleasure to say your uni doesn't matter unless it's a very top or a rock bottom uni

Won't make a difference in the vast majority of cases, and few people outside of academia actually even know which universities are and aren't Russell Group. The cases where it does matter will typically be more selective than just Russell Group.
