Should I retake my a levels

I achieved a Distinction merit(DM) in engineering and got a U in maths A level and a U in physics As, my school is not letting me retake so I am considering on retaking privately but my school is telling me to go through clearing but I don’t want to go to a bad university, I want to study maths and computer at a good uni so I was considering in retaking maths A level and do economics A level, can anyone give me some advice.

Do you know why you got a U in Maths at A level? If it's because you didn't try, didn't study, didn't revise, etc. then retaking to get a better grade might make sense. However, if it was a subject you really struggled with and found genuinely difficult, then it might not be the best option. What grade would you need to "to study maths and computer at a good uni"?

I spent too much time finishing my engineering coursework, and this lead me to revise all the maths content in 1 week so if I do end up retaking maths I believe that I can achieve a great grade. I need like grade A in maths to go to uni.

if you think you can do better then i’d say yes. i completely agree it’s better to not go to uni than go to a **** one, if you think you can retake and get a decent grade then it’s worth it but only you know if you’re capable. if you know you got a U from not revising enough, and just being bad with time management etc in year 13, then it’s worth retaking. if you worked hard for them and got a U anyway then go through clearing

Then a retake year seems like the right approach. I assume it's the same explanation for the U in Physics?

Note that studying independently and then taking the exams as a private candidate takes a lot of discipline. It's not for everyone.

No physics I give up, but my head teacher and data anyalst for school is airing me after I said I will do it privately and it’s been 2 days so I think I am going to have to see them in person to help me do it privately.
