MSc accounting and finance

Hi everyone,
I graduated last year In Business management and economics and have no exemptions to do ACCA and still no job yet for a company to pay for my exams. Can I go ahead and do my msc in accounting and finance or wait to get a job first?

I mean do you have reasons for doing a masters degree? Masters in accountancy are not the norm in the U.K., but you might have specific reasons for doing one.

To get exemption for the acca exams

That tends not to be a great idea. Liverpool had a fast track course which let students get a lot of exemptions but that seems to have closed. A lot of the courses (which are designed to give exemptions - many are not) don't give many. Maybe 4 or 5 max. You could clear that many ACCA exams whilst working a full time job which is much cheaper and more respected by employers.

In addition you can apply for real jobs while doing so rather than being limited by the start and end dates for the masters degree.

Ok, but what happens if I don’t get a job anywhere

That could just as easily happen with a masters degree. A job in a supermarket gives current experience in the workplace to discuss with employers.

A masters degree (of the type you are considering) doesn't improve your employability.

Many interviews will ask behavioural type questions. Recent experience in the sort of jobs which help you to give strong answers to questions such as:

give an example of a time you had to deal with an angry customer

give an example of how you have worked with a difficult colleague

give an example of a time your manager criticised your performance

can be really helpful.
