Bridges Hall, Reading Uni - bed size

I've been allocated a room in Bridges Hall (premium shared bathroom room), and it says the beds are non-standard ('long single') and to bring flat sheets rather than fitted. But the dimensions sound pretty standard - 3ft by 6ft3 (91.5cm by 190.5cm). Has anyone managed to make a fitted sheet work? Thanks.

Good afternoon @AliceNixo,

It's great to hear you are coming to Reading!

I haven't heard of this issue before, but I recommend you bring a non-fitted sheet and a fitted sheet to campus when you first start. Then, you can test the fitted sheet on the bed. At least if you have a non-fitted sheet, you will have a backup option if the dotted sheet doesn't fit.

I hope this helps and that you can solve the issue. We look forward to welcoming you onto campus in September.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to get in touch with us.

All the best,
Ella

I have a long non-standard single at home, and I've always used double fitted sheets for it which work quite well :yep: You would just need to make sure to tuck any excess of the sheet underneath the mattress
The only problem of standard fitted singles is over time (depending on the material/quality) there's a potential of them to shrink in the wash, which means it can be frustrating when making the bed  :hide:

We're in the same boat - dimensions don't make sense. But I have just found what I presume is the 2021/2 academic year factsheet - link here - which gives the Bridges single bed size as 3'0 x 6'7 = European single size. I think the new factsheet must be wrong. IKEA do long fitted singles (200cm) as well as flat sheets. Hope this helps.

Thank you - that's really helpful!
