Twyford CofE or William Perkins

I’m going into year 11 in september and i have to apply to sixth forms not long after and i’ve been debating going to twyford, william perkins or just staying at my own school. for twyford the commute is long at least 40min each way whereas for william perkins and my own school it’s about a 15 min walk. i want to get into dentistry and was wondering which would be the best. i also want to do bio chem and psych (maybe maths instead) at alevels

Twyford is (apparently) a kinda strict school, and there are 4 sets of exams each year. William perkins idk.
Look at each school's stats, may be kinda hard to find on the website but check. Also, go to their open days, since you can have a feel for their school and what it's like.
I stayed at my own school bc the teachers knew me and i knew what its like and how its set up etc

thank youuu. i’ve checked their stats and tbh twyford has better results for a levels but i’m worried about the distance and also about how strict it is. my own school has okay stats, not the best at alevels but i know all the teachers. i’m still conflicted but i’m gonna go to their open days and see how it is.

I'd also draw your attention to the fact that some universities (e.g. Oxbridge) look at your results IN CONTEXT, so it would be more impressive (to them) if you got good results in a sixth form which did okay or average than if you got those same results in a school with better average grades. I've heard this before but I'm not sure if it's relevant or useful to you, so do whatever you'd like, I just wanted to mention it as it might help. 😊

Just to note that neither Oxford nor Cambridge offer Dentistry. I'm sure it's true that other universities also contextualise but Oxbridge isn't likely to be relevant in this case.

In your own school, youre more likely to have friends staying there, teachers know you and you know your way around the school. Twyford and William Perkins are both similars schools, but Twyford requires higher grades or a higher score in the entry exam. From what ive heard Twyford is stricter, however they both are good schools. You should go to the open days and see how the school looks and speak to the sixthformers! High school life and sixthform life at those schools are most likely very very different.

Hi sorry for the late reply, I don’t think I will stay at my own school but it is my backup just in case I don’t get into William perkins or twyford. Do you know if they have the same aptitude test? Also I feel like a stricter school is best for me as they will motivate me into doing my best but overall I’m still conflicted. Do you think the long commute to twyford is worth it or I should just go to William Perkins? Thank you.

Hi! I went to the open evening to Twyford and I really enjoyed it. Personally, I don't go to either schools but as they are in a trust, I'm sure your experience won't be affected majorly. How did you find the open days? I'm personally (hoping) to go to Twyford as I really enjoyed the vast amount of clubs, especially for Law.

Hii I only went to the william perkins open evening bc i kinda forgot abt the twyford one but i rlly liked the wp one. The teachers were so nice and helpful and i liked the school in general. If i get into both (hopefully) i’m most likely going to go wp as it’s a lot closer to me and i don’t think i wanna do a long commute every morning. Also, i’m kinda worried for their entrance exam 😭😭

Hi! Me too I'm actually so stressed about it 🙈😅 but I've heard it's just general stuff so it shouldn't be too bad

Their admin is so confusing, they didn't even send me a confirmation email when I said I'd be attending which is making me extra stressed 😅

Hi! Are you going to be doing your admissions exam in wp or twyford? I saw that they rank us based on their exam and I’m even more worried for that 😭 but hopefully it’s not bad

WP! Yes I heard that as well. Honestly it all just seems stressful but I hope it's actually not that bad 😅

Chem bio definitely but I’m still conflicted on my 3rd subject - either psych, sociology or maths. I wanna do an easy third subject as it can be anything for the course I wanna do in uni

Oh yeah that's smart
I've heard chem, bio and psych are a good combination, besides some people say that psychology would be fairly easy if you're good at writing essays and working with sources because I'm quite sure they have case studies and whatnot

Yeah I’ve heard that too, I already do psych gcse so I’m kinda leaning towards that for a levels.
