Exeter Accommodation

Hi, I just got my first year accommodation at Brunel Close which wasn’t one of my choices and is off campus. I was wondering if anyone knows if it’s any good as I don’t know much about it? Thanks

Information on the Uni website can be found here about the accommodation (officially called St. Davids). It's an off-campus accommodation down by the train station, and is a mix between flats/apartments and houses. One thing to keep in mind if you live there is there's a shuttle bus in the morning and evening to and from campus that stops right outside St. Davids, which is an absolutely life saver if you don't want to do the uphill walk each morning (information about that here). Hope that helps!

Hello, just jumping in because the shuttle bus service is being discontinued this academic year, so I wouldn't want you to be disappointed when you got to Exeter. Details of the new Stagecoach route connecting St David's with our campuses can be found here: Bus | Sustainability | University of Exeter Final details won't be fully confirmed until September but all students will get information about this (likely in the student newsletter) and this webpage will continue to be updated. Whereas previously this only ran first thing in the morning, it will now run all day, so a lot more flexibility.

As a long time commuter to Streatham Campus I am very familiar with the uphill walk to campus. With time it does get better, and I quite like the chance to clear my head in the morning. 20 minutes is a fair assessment on how long it takes to get to central campus, so it isn't too bad, and there are plenty of places to study on campus in between lectures so you don't find yourself feeling like a yoyo travelling between your accommodation and teaching. Major plus is you never have to wheel your suitcase up hill to campus if you get the train somewhere for the weekend...

The layout is a bit different to other university accommodation as it is a shared house as opposed to a flat, so a bit of a different feel, more like the living arrangements your might have in year 2 onwards. It is a long time since I was a student and had friends there so I shall avoid giving too much additional commentary on feel/experience as it may have changed since then, but something I would say is often it is the group of people who you live with as much as the actual accommodation itself which make you feel settled. Provided any absolutely essentials (e.g. an en suite) for you are covered, chances are you will find a nice routine, meet some friendly people and settle into it.

Hope this helps a bit whilst waiting to se if any current students can provide their more recent experience/insight into this accommodation.
