Tuition Fees

Dear Student Finance Team

Dear Student Finance team
I am writing this email to ask a question in regards to Student finance paying the tuition fees .I have been to one uni and dropped out the first year, I went to a second uni and dropped out after 1st year. I want to apply for uni for a third time for a course that is 5 years long. Will my student fiance pay for the whole 5 years i don't want any maintenance loan just the tuition loan for the university. If they don't provide the tuition loan for the 5 years how will I have to pay or try to pay to the uni or is there any alternative option I can try to get Student Finance to pay? Many Thanks

I have read that Dentistry is five years but student finance will pay for four years and then the NHS bursary pays for the fifth year. Given the info about going to two different unis for two different courses if I were to apply for Student Finance for dentistry would they pay for the full four years?

Hi there,

Your previous study gets taken into account when working out your eligibility for a new course. This means if your new course is Dentistry and its 5 years, and you have done 2 years previous study, you wouldn't get Tuition Fees in 1st year but would get Maintenance Loan and Supplementary Grants if applicable. You would then get Tuition Fees in years 2, 3, and 4. Normally then in 5th year of Dentistry courses, you would receive an NHS Bursary so would get from us a Reduced Rate Maintenance Loan only.

Do you have any Compelling Person Reasons (CPR) why you didn't complete your previous course?

Thanks,
Claire

Hi there

If the NHS bursary for dentistry covers the fifth year, and taking into account 5-2+1 = 4, why wouldn't student finance do the tuition fees for Y1,2,3,4 and not cover Y5 and let the NHS bursary cover it? Or is that not how student Finance works?

In terms of the first time I went to uni there was a family crisis and a bereavement which massively impacted my attendance and my health mentally, I did fail my exams due to not being able to study and I did ask tutors for extra time for coursework however my exams where taking place months after this however I was still affected by this I haven't told student fiance this in terms of Compelling Person Reasons I didn't know how to if this still is even an option? I have the death certificate as proof if need be.

Does compelling reason help in any way for student finance being able to pay for the Dentistry course?

Hi there,

Yes, if you can provide evidence of Compelling Personal Reasons we can award additional years of funding.

So, if you have any evidence of this at all you can upload it and the assessors will have a look. That's the best way of getting the fees in the first year.

Please see below for more details.

Thanks, Graeme

Thank you for the link . So when I apply for the student finance for dentistry is that when I should use that link to put through a compelling reason about one of my years at uni In order to try justify getting more funding .

Hi ggssohal2,

You just need to upload the CPR evidence to your account for review. I have provided a link that shows you how to do this.

Hi there

As the CPR evidence is for the academic year 2022 will I go to that student finance year of 2022 and upload the proof there?

Dear Student Finance Team

This is for a new topic thank you so much for your replies to the previous topic.

My question is I am applying for a bursary however they are asking for me to be means-tested. I have sent a student finance application I am applying for tuition fees, not a maintenance loan, How do I now contact to be means-tested?

Many Thanks

Hi there. Can you confirm you selected 'no' on the application when it asked if you want to apply for a Maintenance Loan? Do you have any sponsors (parent/s if under age 25, or a partner if you are over 25)? Thanks, Leah.

Dear Student Finance Team.

yes, I stated I didn't want a maintenance loan and clicked I want 0.00. I applied for this bursary from a university that stated i needed to be means tested so I was wondering how I do this. or contact student finance to be means tested?

Hi there. Thank you. Just to check, do you have an approved Student Finance England Application? Also, if you can clarify the previous question, do you have any partner or parents to support your application if you are under 25? Thanks, David
