1855-1964 so Alexander ii to Khrushchev

This is a good overview of Russian history. It may help:

A History of Russia: Amazon.co.uk: Riasanovsky, Nicholas V.: 9780195074628: Books

I read Pipes's history of the Russian Revolution and it was outstanding. This is likely of the same calibre:

Russia Under the Old Regime: Second Edition: xxii: Amazon.co.uk: Pipes, Richard: 9780140247688: Books

This would be good for the Bolsheviks:

Russia Under the Bolshevik Regime: Amazon.co.uk: Pipes, Richard: 9780679761846: Books

This is a good overview of the Soviet Union:

History of the Soviet Union: 1917-1991: Amazon.co.uk: Hosking: 9780006862871: Books

Good luck!

Hey, no i’m not sure if the student room allows attachments. If they do you would have to press the paper clip looking icon above the reply

No. I don't think they allow it even in DMs. You can go to my website, which you can find on my profile, and get it from the pop-up. In any event, good luck with the research.

Sheila Fitzpatrick wrote a lot about Stalin's Russia and gives insights into control mechanisms.
Orlando Figes wrote about broader sweeps of Russian history, which could provide context on changes in governmental control. They both can be good!

As for the structure I would do:

1.

Define the scope and explain the time period your look at

2.

organise the essay into themes

3.

for each theme explain elements that changed s stayed consistent

4.

evaluate the impact of each historian on your argument

5.

conclusion

You can then start a draft and add it on Tilf website to see the feedback and mark you get so you can keep improving
