How is LJMU English Literature? Was it good in your experience? I’m starting in September.

Hey!

I recently graduated from LJMU after studying an English Literature degree there! I can honestly say I loved it, I loved the course materials, the lecturers and the support I was given throughout. I chose my own modules from second and third year which was so great, to be given the freedom to chose from a variety of modules over the course of the semesters! The reading material was always fascinating, with the option to do your own research and find other works that were outside the reading list. My lecturers were all so lovely and supportive, always on hand for any questions I had! My personal tutor was amazing throughout- you will be assigned one in your first year and will likely be with them for the rest of your degree which is lovely.

The academic staff at the LJMU English school are all so dedicated and experts in their chosen fields, which makes such a difference when you need support on specific topics. Classes for me were on the smaller side, and we had lectures followed by seminars where we would spend time in small groups discussing the lecture material. This really helps you to understand the content you've just been taught in lectures and is a great time for you to ask questions if you are unsure. Having smaller groups and classes means you are able to get to know your lecturers and classmates much more personally which I thought was great! I was comfortable and I felt very seen and heard, always being able to discuss topics confidently within my seminars.

You are encouraged and supported to do your own reading and further study, with the help of the vast library LJMU offer-both in person and online. We also offer modern facilities with computer rooms for you to produce your assignments, peaceful study rooms, archival pieces, and the opportunity to study abroad and go on trips! I can safely say that studying English at LJMU was the best decision I made, with great employment opportunities, support throughout the degree and valuable work experience modules offered within too.
If you have further questions, please ensure you join the Campus Connect app, where you can join the English group chat and speak to other applicants and current students or ambassadors like myself- I will be happy to answer any other questions! 🙂 your login information should have been sent to you via email, let me know if you did not receive it.

Good luck!
