Is it possible to take IAL as a regular UK A-Level student?

Hello,

So I saw another comment where a user was talking about how they are taking the IALs to be able to have their retake in October (of this year), as opposed to the next year's Summer series. They were talking about it, assumably, from the point of view of a regular British student who can only sit their A-Levels in the summer series each year.

Now, I'm wondering if I have taken regular A-Levels, and then if I wish to take another subject at A-Level in my gap-year, is it possible to do the new subject as an IAL instead to get the results faster / use the regular Summer series as a 'backup' almost?

It will be a totally different syllabus so it isnt a quick way of switching to an autumn resit - especially since finding a local IAL exam centre will be difficult
