Student life as a paramedic student

Hoping to go to Bournemouth Uni or UWE in 2025 to study to be a Paramedic.

I love the idea of the course and don't really have any concerns about that, but I would also love to have a great student experience, and I'm worried about that aspect. Do paramedic students typically have a good student social life in the typical sense? The shift work/placements would dictate this to a degree I'm sure?

Can anyone out there studying to be a Paramedic comment on this and share their thoughts?

Thank you!
I’m due to start my paramedic science course as well, I worked on an ambulance as a technician for 5 years and have had plenty of conversations with students over the years. You’re not at placement all the time. Generally it’s 6 week rotations or there about. The opposite 6 weeks you’re at uni so that would be a normal students life. However, when on placement it can be very difficult to maintain a social life. Due to the shifts being so long (minimum 10 hours if you finish on time). The longest shift I ended up doing was 15 hours. That was arrive 45 mins early to perform vehicle checks then 2 hours late finish due to queuing outside of A&E. I learned very quickly not to have any plans for after shift. But remember you’re not on placement 7 days a week. Your mentor might only work 4 days in a week which gives you 3 days to maintain your social life. I suppose it depends on your ability to get your studies done quickly as well rather than put them off. Hope this helps.
