Criminology Diploma

Do Russell Group universities accept this as an A Level? For example, if my son wants to do A levels in Spanish, Sociology and the Diploma in Criminology will this be ok for his UCAS applications?
It's not an A-level so they would accept it as what it is, a WJEC certificate. This may or may not be acceptable in lieu of an A-level to meet a 3 grade A-level requirement.

I would personally strongly recommend replacing an A-level with it as there is no guarantee all or any universities will accept it in lieu of an A-level to meet a 3 grade A-level requirement.

A lot of schools seem to mis-sell it as an "A-level" when it is not, and may not even be considered equivalent to one.
As above, its not 'an A level' and also there is subject overlap between Sociology and Crim.
Taking an A level in Psychology, Law or Politics would leave far more options open to him.
