How much of a disadvantage will I be at at Oxford and LSE as a resit candidate?

I'm planning on applying to Oxford PPE and Lse Pol/Phil, how much of a disadvantage will I be at if I resit my A Levels during the admissions process?

UCAS send your A-Level results to your UCAS choices but I am not sure if they would send the first set of grades or just the second retake set of grades?! 😧

I have a similar query regarding retakes and oxbridge applications.

wondering if there's one of the two unis that view retakes less favourably??

I'm looking to apply to Oxford/Cambridge with my retake grades (I had extenuating circumstances first time around) and I'm stuck on which uni to choose. I really love both their courses and appreciate different things about both unis so I'm just trying to maximise chances by picking the uni which is least likely to blacklist me due to poor grades the first time around.

If it helps, I achieved 6 A* and 2 As in my GCSEs (converted from 9/8/7)

tysm 🙂

Material non-disclosure in an application to a university is a very bad idea. Some of you Gen Zedders really need to take a course in personal ethics.

Oxford only asks for AAA for many "Arts" courses but A*AA or A*A*A for "Science" courses, whereas Cambridge asks for A*AA for most of their "Arts" courses but the vast majority achieve A*A*A* and "Science" ask for A*A*A for many courses and a lot of the applicants achieve A*A*A* or more.

I would choose Oxford, especially if it is PPE you desire to apply for but Cambridge only has 2 applicants per place for Modern and Medieval Languages. 🙂

Also, you have extenuating circumstances, so either university would accept it. However, as I said, Oxford only asks for AAA for most of its "Arts" degrees and Cambridge A*AA or A*A*A (Economics).

I wonder which course(s) you want to study? 😧

Lse say they prefer if candidates don’t resort but many have resat and gotten offers from lse so id say don’t worry about it

LSE regards a 'stellar' UCAS Personal Statement as the key factor in making an offer with so many applicants predicted A*AA or more. ☹️

So if I were to deliver a ‘stellar’ UCAS Personal Statement would I have a chance of getting in still?

I went to the LSE Open Day and went to the talks for Law, Economics and Maths & Economics and they did not discourage applicants for retaking A-Levels and then re-applying with the achieved entry requirements or greater. But the emphasis on your UCAS Personal Statement for LSE is of 'paramount' importance. So, yes you still have a chance, as long as you get the grades too.

PS: For Economics, the admissions tutor said: "Offer Maths and Further Maths and 2 more subjects from Physics, History and of course Economics." So your A-Level subject choices matter too for LSE Economics.

But you're applying for Philosophy & Politics for which any 3 A-Levels at A*AA or more as a retake candidate are acceptable.

Poor advice all grades must be declared on UCAS or your application will be considered fradulent!
