You don't need to do any specific preparations if you don't have any in mind - You have the whole orientation week (which I assume most universities have) to do that! Just do whatever you want to do~

thank uuuu!!
Hi! It’s so great that you’re excited to start university, it’s such an exciting time! Whilst there aren’t any specific things that I would say everyone has to do, there are a few things you could have a look at if you are too excited to wait!

1. You could have a look at the societies available at your university and see if there are any you fancy joining. Most universities will have a freshers fayre that you can attend to see all the societies available, but if you’d like to get an idea of what’s on offer, having a look online is a good place to start!

2. If you struggle with routine, I always find it helpful to have a think about how you plan to fit your uni work around commitments you already have, e.g. work or hobbies, just to make that schedule transition a little bit easier when term starts!

3. Make the most of your summer, rest, reset and look forward to your fresh start! The best way to start a new year at uni is with the energy to throw yourself into it, so make the most of your summer break and your free time!

I hope this helps, and best of luck for starting university!

Hi there,

As others have said, you don't necessarily need to do anything before you start uni!

However, I would add to what has been said that these might be good things to do if you want to do anything before you start:

Look on Facebook and other social media and see if there are any groups for your course that you can join. Most universities have Facebook groups/pages and from there you can usually try and find a group for your course. If you can, this is a good way of finding some of your course mates before you start and this way you can chat to them and get to know them a little bit.

If you can find it, have a look for your reading list for your course and see if there is any reading that you want to do before you start. You might be able to find the reading list but you might not be able to access the books yet so it depends on how your uni works/when you can enrol etc. You don't have to do this if you don't want to though, not many people will do much reading before they start so you won't be at a disadvantage if you don't do any, it's only if you want to!

Make sure you have all of your things ready for uni. I would suggest you would need a good bag to take (I like having a rucksack as it doesn't hurt my back as much), a laptop if you need one for your course and a notebook and pens. I also would suggest getting a water bottle that you can reuse as this will save you money and it's also a lot better for the environment. If you are talking on taking lunch, maybe a box you can take this in too would be a good idea

Aside from this, I would just enjoy the rest of your summer! Spend time with your friends and family and make the most of your free time before you become a student!

I hope some of this helps,

Congrats on your uni place! :woo:
When do you start? I would suggest starting to 'gather' stuff that you want to take. Do you have enough boxes? Supermarkets often give away 'banana boxes' which can be really handy. I would suggest boxes, mainly because they can stack in the car better (my Dad used to get annoyed one year when I decided to use those big bags and they made a lot of noise, and didn't stack well at all).

Are you commuting or living in halls/other accommodation? You could have a look at Google Maps or street view to see which are the local shops or if there are any buses which could be useful to know about.
