I had my assessment centre for thermal today and wanted to pop in and give everyone an idea (specially for those of us who are very anxious..like me).
It starts with an introduction, everyone introduces themselves and there’s some time for any initial questions. Then we move on to a group exercise, it’s a typical consulting exercise - you can find examples on the stuff EY/pwc use and it’s the same format. There is no final presentation and we move on to the interview.
The interview is 2 on 1, and they’ll ask about your motivation and if you go up to the key competencies in the job description, they’ll ask about some of those. We weren’t asked any technical questions. Interviewers will take turns asking questions and may ask follow ups/clarification.
Hope this helps any future candidates!!!

Just wanted to confirm was it for thermal project engineering graduate (Ref: 550601)?

Did the AC for Transmission Engineering (People applying for Summer placements/industrial/internships and graduate role went) last Thursday, Normal AC with group exercise and interview... Without going into details, group project involves everybody weighing up pros/cons of their given brief/idea then present/discuss with others. Interview is primarily competency based ("Tell me about a time...") with some initial icebreaker questions.

All in all, a really positive experience with networking inbetween providing glimpses/insights into SSE. The interview is 1 to 1, everyone is really friendly and they are all trying to support your goals. I can't tell if my eown xperience with Transmission would the same for other departments but Good luck otherwise.

Has anyone recieved offers or rejections for the Transmission scheme? Or anyone else that was there on 30/01?

Probably too early to ask but has anyone heard back after the AC on the 6th or 30th? I can’t remember any mention of timescales at the end….

Nothing as of yet (I'm 30th)

Although I seen that non-engineering related people (those who attended the 6th), in particular the Consents and Environment team have heard back today.

a bit crazy but last week when I attended the AC, the interviewers told me that they are going to hire maximum 2 graduates for their programme... I have a friend who is currently working in SSE and he joins sse since 2023. He told me that in 2023 the company hired ~30 graduates in his selected programme...

Wow, that's crazy - wonder if it's to do with NI stuff. Heard back from SSE on 11/02, rejection from Transmission unfortunately. The search continues...

Had a really weird experience with SSE, I was of the impression that they offered sponsorship they initially called the Monday after the AC to ask about my sponsorship situation and I explained that I would need to be sponsored after the program but I would be happy to use my graduate visa for the duration of the graduate program. The nice lady on the call was really insistent on asking if I had any other visa to fall back on after the graduate one expires, at some point I felt pressured despite knowing there is no other visa I would so I politely told her I would clearly need to be sponsored. Got a rejection today with the explanation that I had huge potential and would have went ahead were it not for the visa issue. Any one else this issue? Were they not sponsoring after the program? I am baffled. Too long sorry😂

When was your AC, and which role was it man? I think they won’t be sponsoring this year

Reply 114

It was capital delivery role and the AC was on 6th Feb. I asked and they did actually sponsor for graduate roles last year not sure what changed.

That’s right for the graduate role but in my case I would be on graduate visa for the whole duration of the graduate scheme so sponsorship would be needed for the role after. Last year did actually sponsor for the graduate role as well.

Hi Everyone! I just recently applied for the Systems Performance graduate position, and got sent the link to my test yesterday. The practice assessments have a take assessment and take practice test option... does it start the actual job assessment if I click start assessment through the practice link?
