Graduate medicine in the uk after uni in Australia

Hi,
I’m currently an undergrad student at the University of Melbourne (was aiming for uk unis but was ultimately rejected even w 3A* lol) and am looking into the GEM programs in the UK and Australia.

Any advice on which country to choose? I know the nhs isn’t looking great. I did live in the uk before for a few years but never had much contact/ heard stories about it.

Also, the gem courses in the UK says entry requirements are honours degree, but I don’t wanna do another year at Aus. Does anyone know if there’s a work around? Or do I just have to stick it out for another year and delay med for even longer?

Anything would help, thanks!!

Hi there. The GEM course requires you to have an undergraduate degree generally with 2.1, some unis accept 2.2 plus a Master or PHD. You will also need to check which University require a science undergraduate and which accept any degree.

However, If you want to study medicine in the UK without an undergraduate under your belt, you can still apply to the standard entry course with either your A levels, an Access to Higher education course or some Universities look at your foundation year grades. You will also need to sit an aptitude test, you need to check deadlines for registration for tests like UCAT, casper etc. Lastly, you will need to pass the interview.

I forgot to mention, in case you want to study in Europe, and not just the UK, countries like Poland, Latvia or Bulgaria offer you the option of transferring credits to their 2 or 3 pre-clinical year if you are studying a bioscience degree. Spain or Italy instead require you to start from the beginning and pass the entry test.

I hope it helps
