University of Exeter Official Applicants Thread 2025

Hello everyone, this is a thread for anyone applying to the University of Exeter for a start in September 2025.

Current students and Exeter staff will monitor this chat, so we will do our best to answer any of your questions. This is also a great place to meet other prospective students too!

Why not let us know what course you have applied to study, and how you are feeling about starting university?

You can see what courses we have on offer here, and keep up to date with any Open Days here.

We look forward to chatting with you!
I can't find a medicine thread so I'm positing this here instead.

I'm predicted A*AA but I'm quite certain I can get these up to A*A*A* and I have a 2850 and Band 1 in my UCAT.

I'm not eligible for a contextual offer (I am at other universities, but Exeter has a slightly more narrow criteria)

I've been struggling to find information on entry for 2025 so I was wondering if anyone has any advice on if Exeter is a good choice to apply to with my grades and UCAT, or if there is anything I can do to make myself a better candidate.

Hi Anonymous. We do have our full Medicine course page for September 2025 available on the University of Exeter website now. https://www.exeter.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/courses/medicine/medicine/#entry-requirements

I'd like to highlight some extra areas of the webpage that are there to give some additional guidance.

Firstly in the Entry Requirements section linked above, there is a "Read more+" button which you can click to expand for more information. Please do take a look at the "BMBS Admissions Process Policy 2025" linked from here which gives much more details on the selection process.

There is also the BMBS FAQ's page https://www.exeter.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/courses/medicine/medicine/faqs/ and there is some historical admissions data provided too.

I'd also recommend looking at the specific TSR threads for Medicine too.

Hi bro_leave_me_be

We do have some guidance relating to how Personal Statements may be used by University of Exeter Admissions here; https://www.exeter.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/applying/afteryouapply/

Of course as you have a number of choices in UCAS you may need to find a balance of information you provide to ensure you meet the expectations of the other Uni's as well

If you are eligible to apply for any scholarships then do check carefully the guidance from the scholarship providers as to when to apply. Each will be slightly different and some may require that you have evidence of applying to us or an offer before they can consider you.

I hope that helps.

Hi everyone!

I'm Sophie and I'm in my final year studying BA English and Modern Languages (Spanish). I've just come back from my Year Abroad teaching English to primary school children in Valencia which was amazing!

I'm from London and chose Exeter because the campus is so green and beautiful - it's so relaxing to walk around every day surrounded by so many trees and green spaces! The staff and students are also so friendly - there is such a nice community feel around campus which I love. The course offers so much flexibility so I'm always studying something that I find really interesting too!

I play social netball at the University, and have also been a part of Taylor Swift Society which is so fun! There is such a range of societies at Exeter so you'll definitely find people with similar interests to you 🙂

If you have any questions about university, life in Exeter, societies, course questions or anything else, please tag me in your posts or messages and I'll get back to you as soon as I can!

I can't wait to hear from you 🙂

Hi everyone! I'm applying for law with business at Exeter. Good luck with your applications all! 🙂 Also, for @UniofExeter Rep , how quickly can we expect to find out the result of our application? I am predicted 3A*s, and the minimum for my course is AAB-ABB, so I exceed the requirements, and thought I might receive an earlier offer because of this (I am an early applicant). I just know sometimes Exeter can take a little bit to let applicants know. Tysm!

Hi Anonymous.

There is a lot of information in our After you apply webpage that will help you understand what happens after you have submitted your application. Read the section "When you will receive your offer". In many cases applications may be placed into tiers based on your predicted or achieved grades and then held until offers are released after the January UCAS deadline. Admissions would normally notify if that is the case so please do keep an eye on your emails including junk/spam folder. In fact in can be a good idea to try and add @exeter.ac.uk to your safe senders list (and any other uni's you have applied to). In some cases it may be possible to make offers earlier such as when applicants are predicted higher marks.

Our UK academic qualifications has information about the EPQ and how it may affect our decision and allow for some flexibility in August when we receive A-level results.

If you are still not sure of anything after checking the webpages do let us know.

Hi everyone!

I just thought I'd share a little bit of my experience moving to Exeter and settling into university life, to help you feel more relaxed and give you an insight into what student life can look like!

I was so nervous and anxious before moving to university - I'd never been away from home for more than a week and it felt like such a huge step that I wasn't completely sure I was ready for. The moving day came and thought I was excited, I was beyond nervous and so scared! However, once I'd met my flatmates and we'd started to talk about all the exciting things we could get up to at university, my nerves started to settle a little bit. In fresher's week, there are so many activities every single day, centred around meeting new people with similar interests to you and trying out new things, so I would really recommend signing up for as much as you can and just putting yourself out there! I tried a Badminton and volleyball taster session in Fresher's week, and even though I didn't end up joining either society it was so fun to go with my flatmates and spend time with them, meet new people and try something new.

Your course is also a great way to get settled in and meet people, as it provides a routine and in the lectures and seminars you can meet loads of people who have the same interests as you! don't be scared to go to these by yourself, but equally don't just sit there - try to talk to the person next to you as you never know how well you could get on!

Moving to university is a massive step and it's completely normal to be feeling nervous at this stage, but you will settle in with time, and by putting yourself out there whenever you can and just trying to make the most of this amazing opportunity, you can have a great time and you'll wonder why you were ever nervous in the first place!

I hope this helps and let me know if you have any questions about settling into uni, or if you want to talk about how you're feeling in the applications process! It can be stressful and overwhelming, but just try to take it day by day and stay positive. Good luck!

@UniofExeter Rep @ExeterStudentRep Hello, I have a question that I would really appreciate an answer for! It says on Exeter's website that it 'may be able to make an alternate offer' for candidates studying EPQ. Is it possible to know if they more or less always do it, or if this is only done in exceptional circumstances? I am predicted an A* in EPQ so am considering applying for Law at Exeter, however I am interested to know if I am eligible for this reduced offer. If possible, I would really appreciate a quick response as I would be substituting an existing choice and I only have about 10 days left to do so. Thank you!

Hi - It is worth noting that the EPQ is recognised at the offer making stage and this would be reflected in the Alternative offer provisions that are added in the offer. It would not affect the requirements of the course at the time of the offer but may be used at confirmation as we would then accept one grade lower if they achieved a grade A in EPQ/Core Maths excepting any subject specific requirements. Law LLB does not have any subject specific requirements.

I hope this helps with your decision making

Hi everyone!

I just wanted to talk a little bit about Open Days and how you can get an insight into life at the University of Exeter for yourself. We just held an Open Day for prospective students last Saturday, and it was great to meet lots of you considering the university and helping to answer any of your questions! If you couldn't attend this one but would still like to see the campus, go on campus or accommodation tours, meet and talk to current students, learn about sport, careers, placement or society opportunities we have, experience sample lectures and student life talks for yourself, the next open day for the Penryn Campus, Cornwall, is on Saturday 12 October, and the next Exeter campuses one is on Saturday 26 October. Here's a link to more information about these: https://www.exeter.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/visit/?utm_source=studentroom&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_campaign=uoe-acquisition-enquiry so I would suggest checking that out!

I fell in love with the campus and how friendly everyone was when I came to Exeter for my Open Day, and it was the deciding factor for me that Exeter was where I wanted to go! So, I would recommend coming to an Open Day if you are considering the University as it can really help make that decision clearer. If you have any questions about Open Days or applications in general please let me know!
