Is my Student Finance going to be based on household income???

I applied for max maintenance loan for my second undergraduate degree later than the deadline on June 24th due to passport renewal delays. I applied for a max maintenance loan to help pay the tuition fees. They have contacted my mum asking questions such as how many dependants they have but they haven't requested household income information. I thought they would ask for this because I got a small message when I clicked the max maintenance option that they would ask for my household income. I am supposed to receive an update on August 27th and I'm concerned about receiving only the minimum maintenance loan because they haven’t asked about my household income or for proof of income. Also, for a bursary application with my Uni, I need to include household income in my student finance application. Should I wait for the August 27th update before submitting the household income form, or should I submit it now while my application is still being processed? I would appreciate it if I could get some advice on what I should do to ensure I receive the appropriate maintenance loan based on my household income.

Hi saharla03,

You should upload that form at your earliest convenience so that we can get that updated for you. If we are asking your mum about her dependents, it is likely she has supported the application with her financial details already. Once this is approved, the university can use the household income details that we have confirmed on our system.

Thanks, Clare

Hey @saharla03 👋

It might depend on how old you are. You say this is your second degree, are you over 25?

From the Gov.UK website:
Your household income will not include your parents income if you are over 25, as you will be classed as an 'independent student'.

OK, so yes, your loan amount would be dependent on your household income. Better to get that form uploaded soon so you can find out and make a plan for your budget for the year.

I had an issue with mine in the first year as my passport had expired. Even though I grew up here, I was born in a different country so it was a lot of sending documents back and forth in the post to prove that I'm a UK citizen which delayed things and I was panicking I wasn't going to get approved in time. It all worked out though and I was paid on the correct day but the SFE acceptance took forever!

Hope you're able to get it all sorted

Best wishes

Omg I was basically in the same situation... I feel like I spent my whole summer holiday trying to sort my documents out to proof I was a UK citizen. Now SFE is taking forever and because theres no way of seeing how the processing is going and how much maintenace loan they plan on giving me, its starting to stress me out.

Hopefully everything works out in the end 😅

Hi just one more question! Do I need to send the Household income form by post first in order to change my application so that household income is considered or am I able to simply upload it as evidence on SFE website?

Hi there,

You can digitally upload this to your account. It doesn't need to be sent via post. Thanks, Jason
