£39 for an application?

Hi all,

Recently applied for a dental nurse apprentice position for a practice near where I live. Harriett Ellis are the provider, I’ve heard some bad reviews and they also have a very low pass rate but at the moment I’m keen to try out being a dental nurse so I applied. Anyway they called me saying that they will send my application and details to other practices as well as the one I applied for, I don’t know how I feel about this, they also said I need to pay £39 for them to process my application. I’m not sure they sound very trustworthy.

Anyone had any experiences with them?
I'm pretty sure it's illegal for recruiters to charge applicants to apply to a job in the UK, which would include apprenticeships I would have expected?

If the recruitment process would cost the recruiter money and it's on behalf of another company (i.e. recruiter X is recruiting for business Y), they would charge these costs to the client, not the applicant.

Sounds very suspect to me, I would steer clear.

Hmm yes it did sound a bit peculiar, they asked for my ID over email as well so I’m a little worried, they also have a very low pass rate so I think I am gonna stay away

Usually ID checks are done in person although I think I have sent scans over before in certain circumstances, although I think it would be concerning if their apprentices had a low rate of successfully completing the apprenticeship and/or finding further work afterwards (which is the point I would think!).

Best of luck to you in finding a role that suits  Try the gov.uk apprenticeship search tool if you haven't already too!

Thank you ) that’s where I found it actually, they’ll definitely be other positions on there though that I’d be interested in so I’ll have another look
Never ever pay for an application to a company in recruitment or training. Their fees are either charged on your employment or via your training fees. Not to obtain either.

Here the Ofsted report https://reports.ofsted.gov.uk/provider/33/1280328

This company calls itself "a leading training provider within the Dental Industry" on its TrustPilot review responses when they receive a bad review. Honestly, feels very much like a scam. Still, maybe once it wasn't, but now they have just given up like a lot of educational companies, and now it is just reaping money until they are put out of business by Ofsted.

I wouldn't give them anything.
