i might not be the right person to ask since i like have no friends😭so i definitely don’t enjoy break and lunch lmaoo but everyone’s really nice and easygoing and i’ve yet to find any rude people which is really refreshing. academically though it is REALLY good which is such a game changer since my secondary was rubbish. it’s a really good school honestly and you should definitely enrol, they have SO many opportunities and are able to help you reach your goals/dreams. it’s also relaxed but like academic at the same time i’ve no idea how they’ve managed to make the perfect balance but that’s great lots of freedom too with the amount of frees!

woodhouse wasn't my first choice but i'm now hopefully trying to enrol there for september as my first choice didn't work out as planned. is the school any good? like how are the teachers, the environment and will it be easy to adjust to? the campus looks so big and i'm from a completely different borough so i'm just wondering if ill make any friends at all 😭 honest opinions about the place would be really helpful (btw i've chosen bio chem and history as my alevel options)

do u still not have friends at woodhouse?
if not i could!!

hi! im in year 11 and im torn between which school to go do go to 🥲. im considering woodhouse college but im not too sure about the student life and the teachers. how are the teachers at woodhouse? also, since you have a timetable mixed of lessons and many free periods, do you still get through the a-level content quickly during lessons? (sorry if this is badly explained) 😅

obviously every teacher is different but i love all my teachers theyre amazing
theres 5 periods in a day and (if you do 3 a levels) you only have 2 or 3 lessons a day so you have quite a lot of free time each day including break & lunch
and again its different for every subject but for example i do further maths and we've finished all 2 years of content for normal & further already so it was fairly quick

hiya! what other schools do you have in mind? my teachers are all fine none of them are strict honestly and they’re pretty easy to talk to they defo want to help you get the best grades possible. don’t worry there’s a really good balance with the free periods and actual work. i think alevels in any school is taught at a faster pace and thats the main thing you have to get used to from gcse. dont expect multiple lessons on one topic because they just don’t do that anymore!! (i feel like if anything alevels should be much slower since they’re a step up from gcses but oh well) it shocked me a bit but once you get used to the pace you’ll be fine. frankly it’s only my chemistry teacher that zooms through all the content now that i think about it. if you’re worried that it’s unserious bc of the amount of free periods than noo it’s honestly very academic and people both work hard and play hard if that makes sense. if you have any questions i’d be more than happy to ask! i’ve only been at woodhouse for 4 months but i feel like it’s enough time now to tell you how it actually is

thank you so much to you and mental-ethnicity for replying to me! i really needed this help haha! i applied to laet and woodhouse college! i live near laet and many of my friends are going there but im really interested in woodhouse and i think the layout of the timetable at woodhouse would be better suited for me than a timetable full of lessons and barely any frees. for woodhouse, i applied for bio chem maths and im considering taking french as a 4th! anyways as im considering going to woodhouse which is a school quite far from me, im quite scared that i wont be able to make friends haha. so how are the students like at woodhouse? thank you guys so much again! i really appreciate this

thank you so much for replying! during your free study periods, what do you normally do and where do you normally go? is the library hectic during these times?

Reply 31

i either go get food or i go do work somewhere (theres lots of space for this, the hub, the library, empty classrooms, and lots of study spaces)
the library usually gets busy around mocks and exams but after school is basically empty

stopp laet was my first choice and i actually didn’t expect to end up in woodhouse i had wanted to go to laet the whole of y11 and was so disappointed i didn’t get in!! (got a grade 6 in maths was 1 mark away from a 7 but by the time that happened the enrolment for laet was over). i live near laet which is why i wanted to go soo badly as it would’ve been so convenient. i mean woodhouse really isn’t too bad it takes me exactly an hour to get there. sooo true aswell. i was really sad the whole of september because i basically imagined myself at laet and romanticised it all but i actually thought about it and felt that it would’ve been quite a bit stressful. having to of 4 alevels by force and the lack of free periods. i like to get all my homework done in my frees so i have nothing to do at home. i also heard that laet doesnt let you leave the school during free periods until year 13?? (not sure about this so don’t quote me on that) this might sound weird but i sort of feel like im speaking to my younger self😭 i honestly have no clue what laet really is like because i don’t have close friends that go there only acquaintances so definitely find out what its like from a first hand experience! random life lesson life always works itself out because woodhouse ended up being alright! i do bio chem and history btw! french as a 4th sounds so good!! how far away is woodhouse for you? i take 2 buses. seriously if you put yourself out there on the first day and just talk to as many people as you can you’ll find ur people. the people here are very easy to talk to and there’s stuff like societies and lots of activities that woodhouse push out in the first couple of months to make friends. hope this doesn’t scare you but make that first day count!! make the first week a week of speaking to as many people as possible and you’ll be fine with the friend situation. i’m assuming you’re from tottenham? you’ll meet lots of different people over here most people are from the area which was a bit scary at first but i met people from the same place as me! but seriously its not that bad. any specific questions lmk!! i hope i answered okay

it’s actually crazy how little it matters now! but yea i was so sad for no reason honestly😭 BIWEEKLY.. is insane i like biology! chemistry if im being honest with you i personally find quite hard the lessons are so bipolar one lesson it’s all silly and fun and the next feels like my teacher is speaking in a different language i seriously feel like its my teacher tho i despise his style of teaching💔💔 youtube videos before the lesson have saved me. the subject is only hard if you don’t understand what’s going on because the questions are simple ngl and they repeat the same things as over and over. bio’s good the content is easy to understand and i actually prefer what im learning to gcse way more interesting. its just the mark scheme thats a drag and so u just have to bang out lots of practice questions. my biology teacher is really sweet and i just have one sided beef with my chem teacher i just don’t know what it is with that class!! but he isn’t too bad he’s pretty chill. for biology you wouldn’t actually expect it but my teacher makes all the notes for us and so learning the content basically goes like this: my teacher spends the whole lesson breaking it down so everyone understands and then we basically fill in the gaps in our notes from whatever’s off the board if that makes sense all the notes she gives us are from mark schemes aswell so it’s really helpful. my chemistry teacher honestly doesn’t teach okay the way i honestly despise him a little😭 he just explains for like 15 minutes and then picks on people the whole time so i’m more focused on getting picked than understanding so yea a bit annoying. you honestly might enjoy his style of teaching i’m just not a fan. with the prep you are expected to consolidate after every lesson and this doesn’t mean you have to do the most and do every single question on whatever but just watching videos, making flashcards etc. i actually get homework for chemistry really regularly like he’ll always give us something for the next lesson. but it’s never anything crazy it’s always just finishing the work in class. pre learning will help you out sooo much. reading the textbook or watching videos before class will help u out sm. they don’t mention pre learning a lot in gcse but definitely do it for alevel!! the lessons zoom right by and this’ll mean u won’t have to do more work later.

yes it’s perfectly fine!! lots of people use ipads in chemistry got one girl in my class who uses an ipad for biology and a couple of people in my history class with laptops. they’re isn’t really a rule perhaps just tell your teacher beforehand? i stick to pen and paper in lesson and use my ipad in frees but majority of people carry a device!!
