GCSE English language advice

I recently did my GCSEs and was really disappointed to see I got a 5 in English language this came as quite a surprise as I have never gotten below a 9 and got a 9 in all my other subjects. I want to say it’s a mistake but it would seem weird for Both my papers to be wrongly marked (I got 44/80 on each) CIE IGCSE. Now I’m afraid I won’t be able to get in any top uni. Does anyone have advice on ppl who have been in any similar situations and if a remark is wise if I’m 4 off a 6 :frown:

Exactly in same situation
Just don’t understand
Could there be an error
How would this affect unis like oxbridge for computer science/dentistry

I’m emailing my teacher to get a possible remark but I’m really praying for some form of error. I’ve looked online and everything is very vague on whether unis like oxbridge will accept a resit.
I want to do econ at lse so I know that with a 5 I probably have no chance since they have a 1/74 acceptance rate or smthn crazy like that so will be able to fill the spaces easily. Really hoping that this is some fluke on the examiner side and wishing the best for you too in finding a solution . Maybe see if you can get a remark for a 6 as that’s most top unis minimum (are you far off?) especially as your degree isn’t English based (so hopefully it’ll be good enough )
I applied for a review and going to resit it.
I hope unis won’t mind the resit grades.
Looks like lot of people got lower in eng language.
My friend who almost always scored near 100% was given a 6.
Looks like the answer to question one was too long even though my school said to use 150 words as minimum.

Sounds like we may have made the same error then. I am applying for a re mark but my school said they may not arrive till October/November so sounds like I’ll have to resit anyway. Hoping to at least get the first moved up to a 6 tho and then hopefully get a 9 on the resit to show it was a mistake.

Sounds like we wrote too much when it was not needed
I am also going to resit
Just hope the resit won’t be looked down by the unis

I’m in the same position. I was predicted 9s in English and got a 6 in both Language and Literature. I just don’t understand it. I got my answer papers and reviewed to to see if there are errors in marking. I have been severely marked down in every question, with no explanation as to why

I am sorry to hear that
Can you get it remarked or appeal

yes, i guess. But I am also worried that if the marking style is so unpredicatble, I could end up with a 5 if I submit for remarking

What exam board did you do ? Cause if it’s cie grades are protected so your won’t go down but I don’t think that’s the case for the others

Really sorry to hear this - it sounds to me like you got hard done by, the only think I can think of is that your examiners just had a bad day considering your grade 9 streak in everything. Considering you’re only 4 off a 6, I’d say go get the remark done if you’re feeling confident. If not then it’s okay to play it safe.

Have you heard anything from the exam board?

Yes, I gained 9 marks and got a 6 which is much better than a 5 at least, but I do still feel like I was under marked on one of my 25 markers but there’s nothing I can do now ig. Hbu ? Hope it went well

That’s still great news
Did you “appeal” or request a “review of results”
I am still waiting to hear
