can i apply to vet med with these gcse grades?

Hi I’m in y11 who aspire to do vet med n I got my gcse results today and my results were the following:

9 - chemistry
8 - maths
8 - physics
8 - textiles
7 - biology
7 - english literature
6 - english language 😭 (wanted a 7)
6 - sociology (but i was one mark off a 7 so i’ll get that remarked)
5 - french 💀💀

also usually most candidates applying for vet med get straight 9s and it’s stressing me out . Does getting lower gcse grades than another candidate (e.g getting straight 9s) put you at a disadvantage?
pls be truthful , thank you 🩷

Yes that’s fine as you have higher grades in the Sciences and Maths which are the important subjects for vet med. That’s a good set of results- well done- you won’t be at a disadvantage at all. Make sure you do your research on the different application processes for each vet school and think about which would suit you best (eg MMI in person interviews or Situational Judgment Tests etc) and try and get as much and as varied work experience as possible as it gives you more to talk about in the interview as well as making sure it’s the right course for you.

As long as you meet minimum requirements (which im pretty sure you do) then you are fine. I am a current vet student and I can assure you most people did not get straight 9's. I didnt get that, and none of my friends did. I obviously dont know everyones GCSE grades but i only know of 2 people who got anywhere close to straight 9s. Universities dont prioritise you based on how good your grades are just that you have reached their minimum requirements

For context I got 2 9's, 7 7's and a 5 (also in french) and I got all of my offers. Grades are more of a tick box exercise

I was very lucky! I ended up choosing Nottingham (april cohort) and I am currently in my 4th year. I chose nottingham for a few reasons. i fell in love with the campus because im not really a city centre person. The course is also more practical than many other vet schools- you start ultra sounding from week 1. The april cohort also often goes into clearing and I was not confident with my ability to achieve the grades so it was a realistic option for me.
