HELP! Got a 5 in English Language GCSE, Want to Apply to Med School

Hey everyone,
I could really use some advice. I’ve just received my GCSE results, and while I did pretty well overall,
I got (98,),8,8,7,6,6,5. I got a 5 in English Language. My goal is to study Medicine at a good russell group university, but I’ve noticed that most med schools require at least a 6 in English Language.
I’m feeling a bit stuck now because I’m worried that this might limit my options when it comes to applying. I’ve done some research, and I’ve seen that schools like Imperial College London don’t focus as much on GCSEs, but others, like UCL and King’s College London, do require that grade 6. So, would it be a good idea to retake this english language exam since its the only thing that's keeping a bad image on the report. I've also seen that some of these unis doesn't accept gcse retakes and automatically reject candidates below a 6 in english lang. Or is there med schools that wouldnt care too much about this as long as my a levels go fine? Does anyone have experience w this? Are my grades good enough to apply to med schools?
The November resit is always an option for EngLang if thats something you'd be interested in

Hi I just finished yr 12. I was in a similar position last year, I also want to do med. I would consider remarking if you feel that you should've gotten higher and this grade doesn't reflect your mock grades etc. But even then, you may only go up a grade to a 6. Since you want to make a competitive application. I would strongly suggest resitting the exam in November and try and aim for a 7. Most unis do not mind GCSE resits and you can always email and ask if you're unsure.

I resit the exam last Nov and went from a 5 to 7 so let me know if you have any other questions. Hope that helps.

I was 4 marks off a 6 so remarking it with about 60 pounds wouldn't really be worth it, but i have requested my papers and ill talk to my teachers if my grades could be increased n if ive been marked harshly or not. If they say yes then ill prob put it up for remarking. But resiting is my only option rn i think. Thanks for the help.

Your grades are excellent, and if you’re A-Levels are at the same standards then Universities will focus on that rather than a GCSE English Exam. If you’re planning a future in Medicine they will be looking more at grades for Science
and Maths. However, if you feel it will hold you back I would choose to resit just to get rid of any worries. If you confirm a resitting soon you may be able to get it done in November and have it out of the way before A-Level pressure kicks in.

You can request priority access to marked scripts to see if there was a mistake adding up the marks, or if you feel the examiner gave you an unfairly low mark for a question. It's free. And if you spot something, it might be worth a remark.
