I think my btec results are wrong

Okay so I need a M2 average on my BTECs for the course I want to go onto but when I look at my results it’s saying I’ve got a P2 which that’s still fine I guess but when I look at the section with the actual marks then look at the newly released grade boundaries for my board I am at like D2 level, my friends who got 180 is apparently also on the same grade as me which is confusing, this has happened for 2 of my BTEC results I’m pretty sure, I got 207 (drama) and 203 (creative media) my exams were by Edexcel, anything to help me understand this better is greatly appreciated!

Unfortunately there are so many BTECs that's its difficult to offer accurate advice without knowing the exact name of the BTECs you're talking about. Do any of these name look familiar?

BTEC Tech Award in Performing Arts
BTEC Level 2 in Performing and Production Arts Industry Skills
BTEC Level 2 Firsts in Performing Arts

BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Creative Media Skills
BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate in Creative Media Skills
BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Creative Media Skills
BTEC Level 1/Level 2 First Award in Creative Digital Media Production
BTEC Level 1/Level 2 First Certificate in Creative Digital Media Production
BTEC Level 1/Level 2 First Extended Certificate in Creative Digital Media Production
BTEC Level 1/Level 2 First Diploma in Creative Digital Media Production

Note that I may well have missed some off the list, so don't assume that the BTEC you're doing are actually here. But it's important to know which BTECs you're doing to make any sense of your marks and the associated grade boundaries.

I’m pretty sure it’s the first option for both (I mean for performing arts that the only one there since it’s just secondary school level) the grade boundaries have been released but the problem still stands

"Pretty sure" is unfortunate, because it might mean what I'm about to work through will turn out to be a complete waste of time, but here goes anyway...

BTEC Tech Award Level 1/2 in Performing Arts

According to the Pearson BTEC Tech Award Level 1/2 in Performing Arts specification, it contains three components:
1. Exploring the Performing Arts (assessed internally, and requiring a nominal 36 guided learning hours)
2. Developing Skills and Techniques in the Performing Arts, and requiring a nominal 36 guided learning hours)
3. Responding to a Brief (assessed externally, and requiring a nominal 48 guided learning hours)

Each component is marked out of 60 raw marks, which are converted into 90 UMS marks for components 1 and 2 and 120 UMS marks for component 3 (because its larger, in terms of guided learning hours). These are summed to give a total out of 300 UMS marks (90+90+120), which is then mapped onto a qualification grade between a Level 1 Pass (L1P) and a Level 2 Distinction* (L2D*).

You say above that "I got 207 (drama)". That must be UMS marks because there are only 180 raw marks available. According to this table within the specification, 207 marks would be an L2P. (210 marks were required for an L2M). So that matches the grade awarded.

BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Creative Media Skills

According to the BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Creative Media Skills specification, "The Pearson BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Creative Media Skills is graded P to D." That doesn't really sound like a good match for your references to P2 and D2 above. Qualifications which include a "2" in their grades are those which cover both Level 1 and Level 2. This qualification does not - it covers Level 2 only. You've therefore likely taken the BTEC Level 1/Level 2 First Award, Certificate, Extended Certificate or Diploma in Creative Digital Media Production.

Can you tell me how many units you did, and the names of some of those units? That might help identify exactly what the qualification is.

I honestly have no idea dude I did 3 components of that helps? Either way I think somethings gone wrong with my results as I was told I was on track for a M2/L2M in both subjects I was told the grade boundaries had changed for performing arts but good god I didn’t think they’d get that bad?

OK. Well, if you find out exactly what BTECs these were, let me know.

You say that, "somethings gone wrong with my results" because you were "on track for a M2/L2M in both subjects" but actually achieved a P2 in each and you "didn’t think they’d get that bad". You realise, I assume, that those are adjacent grades. So the difference between a P2 and an M2 is a single mark. It's quite plausible that the prediction which your school did (when they said what grade you were "on track" for) was off by a few marks. It was just a prediction, after all.

I only said it was wrong because all the sites I was checking for my exam boards grade boundaries for this years exams were saying something completely different to what you’ve shown me and yes I realise that my predictions aren’t going to be what I get I just added them cause I thought it’d help with clarity. I had to resubmit one of my components due to the low grade I got from my teacher and she said to me that partly why they’re so low is because the grade boundaries had gone up which I took into account but I didn’t think they’d gone up to the point where a 200 wouldn’t even get me a strong merit. Either way my group struggled with the last component in drama due to somebody refusing to work with her ex and his friend so my group got put with them and we had to work around them being constantly off so a lot of our writing is inconsistent with what was shown and we couldn’t go back and edit it. One more question though is it possible that if to many people get good grades that others will be marked down or more harshly that’s what my grandad is saying can happen.

Also I would kind of reconsider how you word stuff I know you’re trying to help but it’s coming off ever so slightly harsh.
